housedeep Hmm ... How about some information if you have it like a website or something. This guest list thing is making me a little nervous. I'd hate to drive all the way from DC and not be able to get in. graemlins/mecry.gif

I hope he plays records this time. Last time I heard him, he was mixing off his laptop.
No dis to Kerri, just personal preference to see him play some wax.

Reviews from past posts (of Kerri on his laptop) were mixed. Some liked it 'cause he mingled with the crowd. Others did'nt like the sound (peaking highs). I'll go in with an open mind and judge for myself.

Nice meeting you & 1015 in line last night. I was on my way out and a friend got me in... Needless to say I heard most of Kerry's set from the outside... One suggestion to guest djs when you come to Chicago, I see that alot of jocks come here and play the same old Chicago tracks from the late 80's early 90's. Please leave Promise land, Tears, Ten City, Love Sensation, etc. at home. All of these cats must have a playlist that they pass around before they come here to play.

Cordell, your sentiments are shared by a lot of people. I left and came back later. When I arrived he was playing sing-alongs. They were good sing-alongs, I love "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," but sing-alongs nonetheless.
People I talked to confirmed what you and Jozana noticed which is that he didn't play anything out of the ordinary. Based on that, 6 23, it would not have been worth the drive from D.C.
However, the way he ended his set made up for an otherwise unmoving performance. He had his Final Scratch which was expected but he also had a keyboard and a mic. It was interesting just to watch his performance.
To end the night first he played a new track. I was on the dancefloor up to that point but the trainspotter in me wouldn't let me remain there and I had to see what was playing. Imagine my disappointment when I saw only white labels on the turntables and plus I think it was playing from the laptop anyway.
The track was hot. It was pure Kerri, but he really blew everybody away when he started singing and playing on the keyboard while the track was playing. Completely off the hook. Next he thanked the crowd and gave a big up to Larry Heard then he metioned that in Larry's honor he had done his own version of "Can You Feel It." Again, he accompanied the track with live keyboard. The atmosphere was electric. The song and his set ended spectacularly.
In summation I have to repeat that it wasn't worth a long road trip but it was most definitely worth seeing if you were already in Chicago.

I read a lot of mixed reactions from people about Kerri's sets when he uses Final Scratch. When he was here, he used I thought PCDJ .. don't know if it's the same thing as Final Scratch ... but as you said, it was interesting to watch him perform. Due to my case of the Awestrucks, and the novelty of the screen and remote control he was using, I don't think I took in as much of his set as I would have liked. If he'd gotten to sing here, I would have passed out graemlins/1luvu.gif
As for Final Scratch ... Er ... Hmm ... I know he's really into technology so it's cool to see what he comes up with. I'm hoping to catch him when he plays in NY or DC and er ... without Final Scratch. I preferred watching him spin, handling the records and tweaking knobs, looking out at and reading the crowd from behind the turntables - sans remote and screen. I wonder if Final scratch will become a permanent part of his Dj gigs. I also know he's incorporating a lot of live music into his shows which is very, very, cool.
Hahahaha ... I'm hooked. I don't think I'll ever have a bad thing to say about the guy. graemlins/rofl.gif

Hello everybody, I would first like to say thanks for coming down, and I do play lots of records and I play with the computer as well, all the newer stuff is in my bag, I did use final scratch, but I too wanted to test the difference as well to see if anybody noticed. I had records in the machine(computer) and the real records as well. I switch back and forth (a nd b'ing them) to see if I could hear sonicly the difference, did anyone notice that curious? lots of the classics I play are my own special remix's of them or edits. Also I do play anything I feel I just love older songs but I do stick a few "what the f..k is thats" on, as far as whitelabel's. I get sent lots of them and unreleased things that will never see the light of day on cd's. and I write on the covers of the sleeves, or a special marking goes on them so I know the style, like VOX, Drums, Dub 2, Jazz 1. But if anyone would like to know any record I have, old or new. I have no problem saying what it is. But I do take in all the information I can and use it into the sets, But most of all I like to have fun! not take it as a Job, I love music, it's my love life, morning noon, and night.

Thanks for respsonding Kerri. As a dj, I understand that mixin' up your selection with new and old music really makes for a good, well rounded set. Some people love the older stuff and that's all they live for. But I think that "some" of us in Chicago, love to hear things that aren't so common(classics). You have a pretty big fan base here Kerri, your productions are damn near always on point... I think people expect to hear some of those hidden things you have in your "vault". The last couple of guest jocks we've had visit, played the exact same Chicago classic records.
I understand you can't please everyone cause people's taste & experiences are so very different, Chicago is a tough town to figure out sometimes. But like anything else, keep doing your thing.
Peace
By the way, that sound system at Super Lounge isn't the greatest, so I couldn't tell the difference from one source to the other.

the door kept on saying they were 40 over capacity, but they still kept on letting in other peeps. superlounge is just too small to hold people who want to see the dj in addition to peeps who just want to party downtown. graemlins/nono.gif

Okay ... I would be a bit more composed but wouldn't have left Chicago without hearing him (and I don't mean from outside the club as a lot of people did). Is this situation a fairly regular occurence at this club or just when big out of town Djs come through?

that's bull shit. sorry folks for the inconvience. Monthly parties will be taken else where. Thank you for your support. We can not continue to support a venue that operates in this manner.
