4chan (and the other "chans") are messageboards where people post anonymously... thus, "anonymous." they've been a huge internet subculture for years (started lolcats, rickrolls and a million other memes). Lots of other websites have spun off of 4chan, and tons of the image macros, internet slang and phrases, etc. started there.

Started off as a website for disgruntled anime nerds. Now, a website for nerds of all kinds. interesting contemporary youth culture, specifically the /b/, or random board.

Be forewarned if you decide to visit... lots of porn, racism, sexism, etc., etc. The real asshole of the internet.

The culture of 4chan isn't way different than statuskuo was (in fact "tubgirl" is often posted there). They create a lot of orginal content, but spend most of their time repeating old, inside jokes.
