View Full Version : Disco Circus V/S Over and Over! As a Dj, which one would...

You play at a party first?
I tend to go with over and over for the reason of the music along with the lyrics!
To me, that was a work of art as the same with Disco circus.
But over and over "or" over again allway's had that mistick synth sound to it, something wonderful!
What's your pick?
Peace & Souuuuuuuuuullllllllllll!

In both situations however, the pressings are not good. Diso Circus just goes on too long (grooves narrow) and over and over.....is also brittle on the upper mids. However the songs carry them thru.

Disco Circus, yeah, I'm with you, start with Disco Circus without playing it too long. Actually, I'd prefer starting with "Bra" - Cymande. Starts the party on a good tip. Always wanted to start a set with Theo's "Only the beginning", appropriate title, but never had a chance to do so.

d damn, that's bad news..I've just bought myself a copy of Over & Over on Ebay, but I had figured the sound quality of the 12" would have been better then the track on the LP.. that's really sounding terrible in the mid and high tones..It's strange, because i thought I had heard versions of this song that were well recorded and produced...
greetings

I'd certainly start with disco Circus being that Over & Over is over 130 bpm I consider that a Peak record. After playing Over & Over you need to stop the music and start over again. graemlins/rofl.gif
Exactly, Hippie.
I would consider "Over & Over" also as a great last-record-before-the-last-record-record.
Peace.

GROOVE VICTIM

Depends on the mood of the crowd. If you're playing alotof percussive tracks, then "Disco Circus", especially the second half of the song, is a best bet. But if you're playing some serious Michelle Weeks, Su Su Bobien type of vocals, then "Over and Over" is your choice, especially the section of the song with the crowd chanting "Find yourself a friend" or whatever they're saying. I love that shit!!
Peace

Peace Yes, that is a great line.
You have to love what Teulé did with that for "Drink On Me"...
Peace.

In both sits I have the orginals....and have always found them ...mid range - as being "sandy."
This may come along with audio with high definition...brings the good and the bad out.
However, thank you for letting me know about "other pressings" as I will look into it.

I would just play the lp cut "Dig it" by Disco Circus. The song gets a little redundant but the groove is nice...

I have a terrible recall to titles and names of labels. But I know the song by heart, especially over and over. Therefore I will have to double check my copy.....for the moment I visually see in my mind a brown label....Fantasy records. I will check. I know it is the first one that came out/12 inch.
I deeply love that record.
Have a great day

"You can't be nobody's lover 'till your somebody's friend" - Truer words were never sung!
I love Disco Circus, but Over and Over is really a timeless party jam because of the vocals.
Go out and find yourself a friend ;)

This first time ive heard over and over I went and baught the martin circus album, I think it had a lot of animal's dress up in suits at a disco or something like that.
I just listen to it over and over again and was mesmerize by the sound and the lyrics of the song, it realy blew me away!
I would have love to meet martin circus or the group martin circus just to say "WOW"!
Im just wondering dave, did they do any concerts?
Hey, thank's for everyone's input graemlins/respekt.gif , one love!

Two very different records with different vibes . Over and Over is the all inclusive party record . It's like one of the livest party records ever . The whole song invites you to a party ! . Disco Circus is the builder the one to start taking you there . Over and Over is the "let's all get together and shake our shi* mmm sorry ! ;) .
Peace Alex .
New Year's eve I played Teule - Drink On Me then Over and Over .

I have a licensed reissue of Over & Over on Frank Tope's OST label and the pressing is very good. Also have another reissue of it on Simply 12 Records (again legal) and the pressing is excellent.
My copy of Disco Circus is on Voggue on is a good pressing too, although I'm with DM, it's just too long a song (16 minutes?).
To answer the original question : Disco Circus earlier in the night. Over and Over towards the end of the night.

Yeah "Over and Over" always works for me. Believe it nor not I've dropped it in some of my opening sets. Also dropped "Disco Circus" and got great dancefloor response. I guess it depends on what I'm feeling but "Over and Over" just has so much feeling to it overall.
You mentioned "Don't Go Away" which is another one of my all-time favs. Larry hynotized me with the dub so I normally drop that dub version in the morning when I'm working a downtempo set as opposed to the early part of the night though I've caught Tee and Tony playing it early. Funny you mentioned that cause you don't hear too many downtempo sets in the early part of the night like you used to. Djs used to start off at 108 - 110 bpm and really build the tempo back in the day.
Peace
