Why is there a new party friday night down the street from the Leo's Den. Why do we do this to each other?

The same reason why there are 4 churches on one street. All Chiefs and no Indians, all bosses and no workers, all ballers and no shot callers, all parents and no kids, all....You get the idea

I understand this but why can't we all just get along. Its nice to have a new party every now and then like last friday with Shannon and Rahaan....this week with Dj Hugo and Reg but to have something every friday right down the street makes no sense.

Lots of promotors in Chicago now!
Better believe THE HOUSE MUSIC REVOLUTION will be targeted NEW CUSTOMERS to our parties. We want to bring in some of the YOUNGER generation and also different races of people that enjoy HOUSE music.
Everybody going after the SAME crowd on the southside!

oh ok....now before y'all slay me....I LOVES me some Brett and Mz Nicky and The Shop is cool also...But...To think that all of these places can't survive and thrive is a bit naive..Leo's has it's faithful and The Shop was full last I checked..I was there last weekend...Both places combined at full tilt may hold 200-250 people...If Chicago as big as it is even on the scene we are talking about doesn't have more people than that to go around then we are in a sad state...Everybody does not go to Leo's or The Shop..for whatever reason..Maybe (I don't know) this new place has something different to offer to those that go there..Hell why not have the whole 71st str. lit up with different spots to go to and all getting their share??? Second II None only holds about 100 people max...I can remember when Lake & Halsted was lit up with parties on the same night and all of them were packed..The Spot, The WareHouse, The Generator (a block away)..And the Reggae spot next door to The Spot..Again this is no diss to anyone but the more choices we have the better..Maybe folks should just stop trying to get the same folks and playing the same music and then we would all be the better..I personally would not be too concerned If I threw a party on a night and someone else was throwing one..Folks would still come to mine and also go to the other one as well..Chicago has waaay more heads than you think if you just reach out to them and quit playing the same shit at every damn party...I've seen people at Leo's that don't go to The Shop and vice versa..Some folks don't go to The Dating Game..some do..Some don't go to The Family Den..some do...
Mz. Nicky nor The Shop have a DAMN thing to worry about..They have built their following and they will be just fine...
just my take...I would go to all three if I chose to...
I understand your point but there is enough for everybody..just reach out to others and again..STOP PLAYIN DA SAME SHIT AT EVERY DAMN PARTY..LOL!!

And most people will go to all three...but I think it was something behind this action and if it was then that is were I have the issue....you are right each group will bring in there own crowd and 71st will be the spot....but I still say damn Chicago is just a cut throat city.....from the mayor to the people walking the street....Like the saying goes what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas....well Chicago it cut throat city....and dont get me wrong this is across the board not just on the house scene....but love will out way everything.......

I TOTALLY know exactly what you mean and can't deny that this type of shit goes on...We don't even need to go into detals..I use to think that it was shady to do this stuff but then I find that if you know enough heads and have your own unique spin on your party and offer something special folks will come with bells on..Do what you do and make it as good as you can and you have done your job....The days of finding out who is throwing a party on any given night and promoters not overlapping are just not happening..It would be nice if it did but it just doesn't happen that way...I would try and find out from promoters if I am throwing something and try not and overlap but I know waaaay too many heads to even worry about someone elses' party squashing my own...Competion if you call it that just raise the game There are a LOT of heads in Chicago looking for something to go to and not all parties suit everyone's taste...Hell I live on 71st str. and the thought of having a host of choices on a Friday night all within walking distance suits my needs just fine....
If there is/was shady shit behind these actions it will all come out and nothing lasts that is built on bullshit anyway...

What is "shade" in this instance, and why does it matter? If it's shade simply to start another party then I must be missing something. Or, was I the only one party-hopping in the 80s, 90s and now?

Candles, maybe I'm not expressing myself well, so I'll try again. In asking the question why is it shady, what I really want to know is why is it shady to start another party? Really? Who said that there can only be one thing happening on 71st Street on Friday nights?
Why is it wrong to see a winning formula and want to either copy it or improve on it? Isn't that kinda the engine behind most things? Take areas that use to be dead and now are filled with shops, clubs, bars, boutiques, etc. (Wicker Park, South Loop, anyone?)...somebody had to follow the lead of the pioneers, right?
Besides, ain't there 5011 bars and taverns up and down 71st Street? Do you think that these bar owners got mad when others came along? If they've been around for any length of time, they didn't get mad, they got better.

And what I'm saying is, despite what you as the organizer of the original party or the topic-starter may think, perhaps it's not shade. Maybe it's just plain old American capitalism and competition at it's finest. Other than that, asking why doesn't really matter.
At any rate, I'm sure your party will be more than fine...if I were yall I'd welcome the opportunity to give your patrons an even stronger dose of your stuff, and perhaps reel in new ones while you're at it.

Same thing that i have been saying to different people that I have talked too. If you know your shyt u have nothing to worry about. Everybody can have their pick. Just do you people! Let's Party!
I really don't know for fact its shade but it just feels like it is.

I think he feels that it is shady because its about money. Everybody can get their paper. Just do them.

So sad :jpshakehead: there are many more crowds, DJ's, and locations not just the South Side here in Chicago. People let's get out of the South Side??? I say let's take it back to the Norht side like we did back in the 90's
HEY!!!

I was just thinking the same thing...this could actually be a good thing as it could turn out to be a little strip, especially if the two are in close walking distance
And I don't live there. I just enjoying partying when I visit. Which reminds me; I'm due for a visit! Let me check my calendar.

I really don't know for fact its shade but it just feels like it is.
all dj's have the right to do their craft, play music and invite people to come & enjoy it - that's 1 criticial element to a good party - good music & people who enjoy the music. imo, there's nothing shady in that. so what about proximity - i love the concept of follow the dj b/c they each have their own style that's the beauty of it - you party where your money & your transportation take you for me that's anywhere I feel like being, that's a good thing, more parties, more choices, better, for me.

I am tripping on this.
The Unity, the word "Love" and "House Head".
I am not a House Head. I'm a Person who just love's music in every way of the creation of a note.
So what I say, please, Please, PLEASE don't take it the wrong way...
I'm tripping on the fact that the so called "House Community" is talking about "Growth & Togetherness" when it come's down to supporting House event's as a whole.
One word... Bullshit!
In today's world, People party where it's Convenient for them to party...Period!
The only time when I see old friend's at once if there's a Big Event or i'm throwing a Private and Intimate get together. Other than that, the year's continue to add to my life.
I honestly Believe that the reason why some House Music Party's have the same Face's in the Picture's, same Dj's, same People holding the beer at the Bar, is because this is your comfort zone.
Some People just adapt and afraid to Branch out to other Venue's or event's.
then, you have the whole "Follow the Leader" crowd that just pour salt on the other party when they haven't even Experience that type of Party.
It wasn't any of "this v/s that", how in the hell did it get that way..?
Hell, I went to a Lil Louis Party out west only to go to COD's out north and continue my drive.
Me and some old friends, Lisa and Debbie (sister's) hung out tough back in the day's and didn't care about the Location. As long as Disco/House Music was played, we (and everyone else) was there.
I'm just saying...it was just so much focus about the PARTY than the LOCATION.
When Ron was at Mr. G's (west side) , a lot of people from the south was there and we all had a good time.
When Pharris was out South at the Humming Bird, a lot of people from the West side was there BECAUSE IT WAS A PARTY!
How soon we forget...

This is a bullshit issue. Why are we arguing over parties. They are free, parking is good, a lot of great music and no crazy ass fights going on. I've been going to Leo's Den since July and I enjoy it every time. Alot of other DJ's promote other parties at other locations. They don't have to do that. I've been to other parties too. I thought we were making progress as a unit, but were making 2008 an big ass problem against each other. This is not the time to do it. They love shit like that. Divide and conquer that's what they say.

Why is there a new party friday night down the street from the Leo's Den. Why do we do this to each other?
ok if they want to have a party over there, fine. There is money to be made everywhere not only Chicago. Think about it 79th and Halstead. Glasshouse/ Sandpiper you make the call. that's it
