How many people move from Philly to New York, though?
This is a non-story.

this is often discussed on local nj talk radio...big outflow of people from jersey to the western and southern states, big inflow of new yorkers into jersey and pennsylvania...shit is too expensive to live around here anymore...over the years i have seen all the old timers leave my neighborhood and a huge inflow of new yorkers and along with it the new york attitude...

probably a wash, but my brother and his no job, skinny jeaned friends are slowly moving there for the art scene and cheaper rents. not surprising and something i've been saying for years; nyc just isn't as cool as it used to be due to the high cost of pulling off a somewhat normal life here. the fun artsy slackers that used to be able to pull it off here aren't cutting it anymore and frankly, they were much more fun than the rich douchebags that live here now. people will figure this out slowly and you won't get as many cool kids moving here out of college which will eventually make it less of a destination city which will eventually pull down the cost of living here...

Watch that trend spread down to Baltimore as well which is just as cheap if not cheaper. I have MANY friends who are doing the music thing move to Philly and Bmore. Unless you have a trust fund, a flexible and well payed day job, its brutal trying to do the music thing in DC

It's not just Philly. NYers are moving all over, Jersey, PA, DC VA ATL, NC, FL where property is significantly cheaper and you get more space and property for what you pay for than you would in NY. However property in DC is becoming more expensive due to the revitalization of the city. You know adding major retail stores and eliminating public housing, turning them into town houses and condos. So for you NYers looking to move to the DC area; Montgomary "Mo" County, Fairfax or Alexandria for cheaper property, unless you have a promising career with the government or you're in the computer software field, ya may wanna look further south. $h!t is getting real expensive here...
