Have you gone out dancing just to get away from the pressures or pain that you may be going thru. Back in the day I neverwanted the Dance to end because my personal life was ****ed up. The Dance can be quite an escape for some peole. You can't begin to imagine what people are going thru in their private lives when they lose it on the floor. The song may have touched a certain emotion or something. For some the Dance is all they have to look forward to in a given week or period. I actually at one point had nowhere else to go after the party was over... so I never wanted it to end and was on all types of drugs to take me away from reality if only for a short while. I would start to get depressed when I saw the slightest hint of daylight because I knew that my reality was coming back.

I can relate, both personally and observationally.
I used to see this one woman at the Powerhouse when I was a teenager, and she really looked like she was "going through" and/or had had a rough life. She would always dance like her life depended on it to the melancholy songs Ron played, esp. toward the end of the night. My sister and I made up a story about her (that she had been a disco queen, her sig other had quit her, no money, etc.) to explain the sadness we thought we saw in her face/her dance movements.
Certain songs make me believe that this is a widespread thing...that GAP Band song about going to the disco with your last piece of $$ (don't remember the title); Patti LaBelle's "Music is My Life" and others.

I dance better when I am hurting rather than being happy go lucky. It feels strange but yet fullfilling at the same time. There are too many vocals out there that I had a soft spot for when my ex left me a few years ago.
Today I am happy go lucky guy on the floor. I just dont feel the music as strongly as I did a few years ago.

I have used the club scene as an escape since the beginning. At the tender age of thirteen, before drugs came DISCO. My entire life has been hard. I use the art of dance to relieve me of stress and pain. I also used it to celebrate life. Now it’s my gym and a form of therapy. The most pleasurable thing is I don't need any mood, mind altering chemicals to enjoy the music. What ever emotional state I am in the dance will grant me some relief or fulfillment.
Much Luv,

I definately feel you guys on this, every week I go to the ATTIC and just lose myself, it really seems like thats the only thing in my life that I truely look foward too on a consistant basis. I couldn't even to begin to imagine what my life would be like without house. SCARY HUH!

i feel this thread too. i look at dancing as a means to excorcise all the pent up negative energy and refill my being with positivity and love.

What up Rich!? Work man ova here! Yes I have danced while I was in pain. Sometimes I would go out just to release the pain. House music has helped me get through alot of things. Even at home when I don't feel my best, I put on some house and dance my cares away. There are times the music makes me feel so good that I'm in tears. But it's good tears!

That lady is exactly who I'm talking about!!!!! She may not have been any of the things we made up about her to ourselves, but to us, she looked like she had "been through it".
There was also this super tatooed, bald white guy that used to be at Medusa's...I used to wonder about his story, too.
