Hats off to David Mancuso (great finally meeting you, too)! Just got back from NYC and my first Loft experience. It was beautiful sea of humanity! Made lots of new Japanese friends ;-) Flew in Sunday afternoon and arrived with luggage in tow. Partied til my perm sweated out! Thanks to David and the loft staff members for a wonderful time. Extra kudos to the nearby Astor Wine Shop for the Nectar Imperial bottles.

Nice :)

hi Martin!

It was Black, White, Latino, Japanese, British, elders, babies (i counted 2 baby carriages), teens, tweens, kids, old heads, grandfathers, grandmothers -- a multigenerational family reunion of house lovers united under one groove!

Happy 38th Anniversary David!

excellent! excellent! party! thank you, David!

I hadn't been in awhile...and I needed it..

I think one of my favorite things about the loft is that everyone is in such good spirits, and the energy and vibe in that room on sunday was so high people I see regularly were coming up to me giving me big hugs.

I love bringing people to the loft for the first time!!!

of course the music was amazing

that doctor rockit - cafe de flore blew my mind

and that baby huey cut..

and the walter gibbons mix of 'ten percent'

Oh What a Party!

P. Diddy's White Party, Truman Capote's Black and White Ball. The first Love Parade in Berlin after the Wall came down. Where would you ost like to have been a guest? Presenting the most spectacular parties of all time!

words by Kristoffer Poppius

David Mancuso's Valentine's Day Party New York 1970

Party pioneer David Manucuso, who for several years had been inviting guest to his loft at scruffy 647 Broadway to dance to soul music, decided to arrange a unique event in honor of Valentine's Day. He had invitations printed with the slogan 'Love Saves the Day' and sent them to all his friends, and eclectic mix of people of various races, sexual preferences and social classes. He blew up five hundred balloons, threw together some organic food mixed vats of punch and threw open his doors. The rest is (disco) history.

I will scan the article and post it later in the week.

other mentions include Elton John's 60th birthday (2007) at Cathedral of St. John the Divine, Bianca Jaggers 30th at Studio 54 (1979)

It was Wonderful!!! Wore a huge grin the whole time!! I don't remember the name of the song that came on but the lyrics include " taking a trip through your mind" when that came on, it set the whole mood for me.

David you're the best! :)

I must go this year or next year, mos def!!
The London Loft is also special, it's always wonderful. (I wondered if people outside UK can sign the petition to keep 'The light' open?)

"The Light, built in 1893, played an important role in the evolution of the Great Eastern Railways when it generated the first electric light to Liverpool Street Station and the Great Eastern Hotel. It continued to provide electricity until the 1930s when the building fell into disrepair. The current owners extensively restored and transformed it into a bar and restaurant, now under threat from a planning application submitted by Hammerson plc for a hotel, offices, shops and housing on the site around The Light."

I also wanted to extend my thanks for another great party.

One observation I did have was that on some of the newer house tracks you played, specifically "Rej" and "Love Can Damage Your Health", the mid range sounded a bit muffled like you couldnt hear the synth line and/or vocals very well. I was standing in the back left (facing you), so that may have had something to do with it, but everything else sounded pretty great. Anyways, just a personal note...

Greetings Chris Burns :)

Thank you for bringing this up.

While doing the final sound check (45 min's B-4 take off) an amplifier (right center side channel) "simi-failed" causing a intermittent situation. There was no way we could remedy this particular situation in time for the party. We could have shut off the amplifier even tho' the left (center side) channel was intact but we decided to ride it out as long as it did not get worse.

Also because of the way it is set up, the front channels are what you hear/perceive first and are always the most important. They were intact. Had the problem been there, we would have had to "rearrange" some things to maintain its integrity.

The vocals are always the key. If they are sonically legible than all is well.
In this case distortion appeared in the one speaker...but the rest of them were correct....sort of like when one person in the choir is singing out of key...it affects the overall clarity.

Mercury is in retro-grade :)

ps. btw... the pm should be ok now

This makes sense. I acutally was standing on the back RIGHT (not left). I just thought it was interesting that this minor problem was prominent on the newer productions. Anyways, the system still sounded great!

IŽll never forget the first Loft party I went to in london several years ago...

but this was just magic!...This was my first visit to the NYC party & it blew me away. I literally felt alleviated for the first few hours taking it all in (& this after an 8 hour flight & some 36 hours without sleep & strictly no drugs, lol).

We got there at five before any records were playing as David & his folks were doing all the various checks, I took a seat & just felt complete peace. I went to buy a t-shirt & David walked past. David, if youŽre reading, a pleasure to meet you at last my freind :)

I loved the location, the sense of space it gave, the way everyone was just hanging out or sat down in big groups around the tables in between & behind the 7 speakers. Seeing people of all ages, every colour under the sun...seeing 50 year guys practicing their spins on the floor without a care in the world...noticing so many characters in the crowd...it was hard to take in for me..almost like being in a time trap & living a fantasy that IŽve dreamt of for so many years.

Had the pleasure to meet so many interesting folks...big shout out to Hiro who I saw at Deep Space on monday night...loved our conversations about your first ever loft experiences & sound!

Musically, I wouldŽnt know where to start...so many classics I never get tired of but always a couple of pieces new to me too...I have to say hearing Robert Aaron Žsax in the ozoneŽis always a bit special for me...they could have called that song Žsex in the ozoneŽas well lol, the bassline just sounded orgasmic! I canŽt remember hearing it at the Loft before but when I heard the first few notes & realised what it was...oh boy!! you know that feeling :)

I donŽt want to turn this into a novel but eternal thanks to David & his team of helpers who make all of this possible & to all the beautiful people & dancers present :)

Anyone thinking about going to the NYC party..all IŽd say is go!!!! I saw a fantastic set by Phil Mison at the Apt on saturday, Harvey was incredible at Club love...the Loft was magic & then FK blew my mind at Cielo on monday night...not a bad weekend in NYC IŽd say :)

Sadly I never made it to the Shelter as some crazy women decided to spray me with pepper acid outside club love (as we were looking for a taxi)..eternal thanks to my freind Conor, all the people at club love & the guys at the hospital for looking after me & for helping me get through the experience & thx to god I have my sight & made a full recovery in time to get to the Loft. Love saves the day :)
