I now know of maybe I think five African-American Men, who have now died in their sleep. Have you noticed a trend?

Does anyone have a theory, or thought?

strange post, so you work at the coroner's ?

So, from a science persepective, did they suffer from any life threatening diseases, did they have a history in the familiy, what was the cause of death, did they all die of the same thing, did they (like you) suffer pangs of paranoia ?

IMHO
Best way to go is in your sleep.

I know what you are refering to...

One of my favorite bartenders, age 40-2, went to sleep on a Sunday & never woke up. We had just seen him the day before and he looked tired but no one would have ever known. Heart was the culprit.

Reggie White-athlete; sleep apenia (spelling)

One of my dad's basketball buddies (age about 50 something)...died-stroke victim.

My thoughts would that folk aren't practicing prevention (ie going to the doctor), eating poorly, and lack of exercise...and too much stress.

thats what i would guess...heart disease coupled with diet/overweight and stress factors...and add to the fact that men in general are less inclined to go to the dr when not feeling well...or have no health insurance to go for regular maintenance could probably add up to that.

Sleep Apnea is no joke...if they snore like a ripsaw, stop breathing for seconds at a time and start battling/convulsing/writhing while not breathing in their sleep - SEE A SLEEP DOCTOR AND GET A MACHINE!

And lose some weight.

my grandfather had a heart attack while he slept and died in his sleep back in 1972, so perhaps it's not a trend, it's the case that dying in one's sleep is being brought to the forefront.

Ya, because you don't notice anything!

Or do you?!

Get what yall are saying about over-weight, family history etc, however. without speculating, I am not sure those were the main factors.

Gerald Levert, 32 year-old male that I know personally with history of Bi-polar disease, Reggie White- and countless amounts of other people.

Here is the common trend, they were all African American males.

No pun intended, (No I am not a mortician, or work in the morgue; just hearing a bunch about this, and wondering if others are as well.

Well I'm sure there are others that have gone this way that weren't African American, if you look it up.

With all due respect: I am speaking very specifically about this particular gender and group of individuals.

Think you're stretching a bit. Obesity, heart disease, and of course sleep apnea which is usually due to obesity and will lead to and aggravate heart disease and stroke. All increasing problems in the US. More among males, and even more so amongst African-American males.

Now Reggie White is a slightly unique case that is afflicting football players and other strength athletes. The extra girth around the neck and upper chest area from muscle still puts pressure on the airway and can cause sleep apnea. Which aggravates the heart when you sleep, which can lead to a heart attack or stroke most likely when you are sleeping.

Just looking at Gerald Leverts pictures I can tell he probably had sleep apnea. Really thick around neck, face, and upper chest. Probably rattled the windows when he slept.
