from ze web: .MDI files are only supported by the Microsoft Office 2003 version
seems like if you don't have that old 2003 version, you may be out of luck

oh yea, i'm feeling out of luck alright
if you right-click the file is there an open with option in the right-click menu? if so, select that and see if you can open it with a different app like ms picture manager or windows pic/fax viewer. make sure you check the always use this program to open this file type checkbox and then click ok. if it works, cool. if not, let us know and we'll go to plan b.

Try OpenOffice. Not sure if it works but it's a free software and may work.

that's actually not a bad idea. i had a user that created some excel files and put a password on them before he left the company, so when it went to the next person that took over those files she couldn't unlock them without the password. fortunately, openoffice saved my ass and i used it to open the files with no problems. i just copied the data to a new excel workbook and everything was as good as pie.

you will need a program like reason. you import your midi data to the reason seaquencer. from there the midi data for each instrument will appear on each track. you can then assign midi nots for drums, bass, etc.
kinda nerdy music stuff..........

You thought what I thought when I first saw the thread. He isn't speaking of midi files. He said .mdi files. By the way, the latest version of Nero will play midi files.
