Danny has a very loyal following and he is very smart about keeping his gigs spaced apart enough so that they're packed every time. And whoever made the comment about record geeks and non-dancers clearly hasn't been to his gigs.

Some other DJs to bank on are Spinna, Rich Medina, & Joe Clausell.

Sorry to butt in. However, when you posted your premise for inviting other "DJ's" in to play, I have to say f*ck that.

You need to worry about building a crowd that is there to see YOU guys play. This is the same situation as having a mess of people coming through, and then your night is not stable. Establish yourselves, and then invite others in to play once you done that.

I'm planning to come through and hear YA"LL play. Why? Because I know who you are personally. A good number of those names that are being thrown out, I have no idea who these cats are. I bet the same goes for a bunch of other peeple. Break the cycle...

I agree with TAC, don't base your party's draw on guest djs, they'll come once for the dj and won't come back. Work on promoting it, clever ideas to get people to come out - birthday parties, charity fund raisers, theme nights, etc.

All your doing is blowing up some other guy/female at your expense. If you have some slow nights, so be it. If your party collapses, so be it. Move to the next venue, but all along you'll be building a crowd. It doesn't happen over night. You put some chump on, he has a platform to get off, and then moves on to the next venue to beat down. His crowd don't come back to yoru venue cause they aren't there for you.

Break the cycle...

i strongly agree...concentarte on making an indenity, DO NOT have regular guest dj's...create a unique vibe and identity. f you must have a guest dj occasionally, limit it strictly, say, no more than once a month or whatever...and have someone who fits the theme of the party...many names people just mentioned do not fit with what youa re trying to do whatsoever...have a local guest that fits that ecclectic idea you are pushing...someone who can contribute to that vibe and not be the same sh*t as everywhere else...someone said joe clausell, that would be a mistake and end to the party, as peopel would expect that typical style of nyc house...

...many names people just mentioned do not fit with what youa re trying to do whatsoever...Well, I think people don't get what we are trying to do, which is guess is our fault.

It's not a no wave party or some anti-nyc house sound thing, cause we like it all. It's just good general dance music stuff because we want to avoid the "I only play a sub genre of a sub genre at my party" thing, which is why we tried to book different sounding people every week, but you are right in that it didn't really work out well cause no one knows what we are trying to do.

So people did only come for certain DJs and didn't come back, unless they came for us. I was a bit let down that people weren't down to hear different shit all the time, but I guess that's just really most NYC's clubbers state of mind and I'll have to accept it... or it'll take a MUCH longer time as TAC said.

So I think you guys are right in that the only 2 people DJ'ing should be Gomez and I.

Thanks for the advice, sometimes we need to pull back and get a clearer perspective.

Richie, I agree with TAC. If you party is good enough these people will eventually be asking you to play there.

Guests should be something nice you do for your loyal followers, not as an incentive for people show up.

Merry Christmas or should I say Happy Hanuka...

Dong, trust me,from experience with giving sets, make your own party,do not bend ya rules for nobody. If they don't fig it,fuck em and let them eat cate.

The big name guest dj thing is what has killed smaller scale sets. It's cool every once in a while, but once you continue to do so,your numbers will tell you the truth.

Some folks will come to an event where you have a special jock, when they come backand don't see that jock, they think you are cheating them somehow. The logic is crazy, but remember how the general public is.

Good luck on ya'll party.

The point is if a person wants a particular groove, then they should go to a club that provides that groove. This is tough as all hell to do. But based on teh changing demographics of the party scene and who you guys are, I think ya'll are in a position to find your nitch and make it stick.

Sooner or later, the people that stay with you will be the ones that appreciate what your doing.

Oh one thing, a pirce of humble advice from me. If you are playing out on a regular basis, the sh*t talking has to stop. You never know when your going to have a bad night, and if your talking sh*t "people" will be wating in the wings for that bad night to occur so that they can murder you.

I talk sh*t cause I don't play nowhere...let your tables do the talking from here on out...

So, I guess this means that your going to take back dissing those who wanted you to put them on right. ;)

ever considdered letting other people play unexpectedly?
create your own night, just the two of you as dj's, and every once in a while have someone else as a surprise dj. just think of the buzz that will create amongst the regulars.
it not just sends out a message to those that didn't show up that night: "you better be there again next week, you'll never know what surprise they'll come up with this time!" to avoid dissapointment you'll have to create a loyal following first though, and don't over do it with the special guests.
it also sends out a message: this party is about fun, and good music! not just about who's who, and who's hot in dj-land at the moment.
it also gives you an opportunity to give unknown dj's a chance to shine (that is, if they're good enough) as the crowd is not there just to hear people who's name they recognise.
