i'm willing to bet that leonard remix rroy is gonna straight vomit when he learns that "seeline woman" was one of ronnie's heaters too.
Different strokes for different folks. I can speak for Leonard by saying that neither he nor I live under the Frankie & Ronnie Rules of House. The fact that See Line woman may have worked for Ronnie is great, but to dwell on what worked 15-20 years ago is counter-productive to what the scene in Chicago needs right now. Too many sheep and not enough herders....JMJ

J,why you gotta bring sheep into this... :D
I feel your remarks.I think that things are going to change. It is already happenning. You cant stop it.Those who want to stay stuck, will be the rats on the traps.
I don't dis old music, cause there's always something I have never heard.I just think the cats who push the old rare stuff, should also help push some of the good modern tunes also.
There are folks who are doin it and folks who are not.I honestly could give a care less.Let them do their thing, while I do mine.I think the respect has to come back into the game.
Respect what others do,even if it's not your flavor. At least they are doing somethin'!!!There's no need to outright dis someone for their taste in music. Not saying you are doing this, just making a point.

Everybody's taste is different, and that's a good thing. The Frankie & Ronnie Rules Of House in Chicago are no longer valid. It's time to move on and move forward......JMJ

I believe that is a very important issue here in Chicago and elsewhere also.Too many folks disrespect folks over bs and garbage.I guess I just am seeing this differently.

jmj- you're right. rule #1 is different strokes for different folks. james- you're right also. there are some new cuts out there that deserve some attention. no problem. but if ronnie's and frankie's styles are outdated(i guess that's what jmj and james are inferring), why do they(their styles) keep getting recycled? groups are remaking old cuts, djs are still editing and eq-ing,etc. in fact, didn't MAW remake "seeline woman"? if they didn't that's what i heard. old or rare beats are here for a reason. i know you guys know this (so i don't want to beat this to death) but the rare beats are hands down the roots of this music.

I think the best dj's are the ones who know how to incorporate the new music with the old. I'm tired of the old vs. new argument. I'll never say I'll only play new stuff or old stuff exclusively because you do do a severe disservice to your crowd and especially yourself. Play what you feel (whether new or old) and the rest will take care of itself.

Well Trent,I never said I was pro new or old.I am just looking forward.I have roots in this shit that is with classic rare shit.I grew up listening to Disco Madness.
I think the balnace should be there, but then again,I could really care less what a jock plays,it aint hurting me none.I still respect jocks who have the balls to play some crazy shit.Like I said before,I dig all kinds of music and if it's something I like,I will get it..old or modern.
I still think the respect factor is the most important thing to getting the jocks on the same page, whether they play techo, disco,or house.Respect the artform and the art of the dj.

I am definitely one of the old guys (don't start, Jamie!), but I enjoy and play new music too. I will agree that the old sound is the roots, but without new music, originality, and new blood, House music will continue to fade away just like every other form of popular music that ceased to evolve. See Line Woman was reproduced, not necessarily remade, because the original vocals are still intact. The remake of Ease Your Mind?? Nice, but unneccessary. Some of the remakes, reproductions, and re-edits bring new life to old tracks. Some just seem to be made to make a quick buck. That's my take on the subject......JMJ

i agree with jmj on the fact that a lot of new cuts/remakes are made just to make buck. in fact that's been one of my fundamental complaints about new music for about 15 years now. when farley(or darryl pandy) redid "free man"(circa'87) i was done. i couldn't believe it. gotta go. be kool y'all
