Does professional looking packaging matter if you want to get your demo heard? The music is there, but I hear that sometimes they will not even listen to it if the packaging does not look like Epic or Capital records put it out. Anybody have this kind of experience? Peace.

i just send a cdr with a handwritten note or somethign on some letterhead..and usually follow up with an email later

i usually dont demo tracks but the few times i have this approach has worked...depends on the label i guess.

cheers and good luck.

cheers and good luck. I usually just make a very raw "put together on the fly" b/w cover with all the info on it. No colour graphics or anything. Peace.

well, try putting a letter in there aswell, saying whom youve released tracks for and any upcoming/pending releases

also a website in your letterhead info will help if they want more info.

helps to show that you are bringing more to the table that the label can work with to promote the tracks if they sign them (if they dont knwo you personally).

cheers!

cheers! You are absolutely right. Portfolio is very important as well. Like an actor that wants to get into movies. Good idea, lesysteme. Thanks my Brother in Music. graemlins/respekt.gif graemlins/beerchug.gif

Our last mailing included an introductory letter with our letterhead and some bio style info about us and our artists. I thought it looked pretty professional, but the bottom line is that it's up to the pure subjectivity of one cat that's gonna give your shyt a listen and sign it or toss it, regardless of packaging.

Man, I think certain label's AR just throw your shyt on the pile if they don't already know you. But fear not, when you finally get that cut that takes off, you'll see em' scrambling through the pile and standing in line to take a trapese swing on your jock.

Keep chompin', bro. I know our demo mailing days are nearly over... heh heh...
