MOTION, dated 03/27/2003, submitted by Councilmembers Pepper, DeWine, Crowley, Monzel, Mayor Luken and Councilmember Cranley, that the City not object to the BUF's decision to remove itself from the Collaborative, given the clear conflicts that existed between its interests in a destructive, divisive boycott and the class interest in the implementation of the Collaborative. If the BUF, as it has claimed, is committed to the ongoing boycott as its priority, then it is not an adequate class representative due to the clear conflicts involved. We further move that despite the BUF's decision to abandon its legal commitments in the Collaborative, the City should continue to be a partner of the Collaborative on the condition that the following changes are made: The Plaintiffs design a structure that assures adequate class representation by persons and groups so that there is "buy-in" and effective representation of the diverse community that is served by the collaborative. Collectively, the groups enlisted in this effort: (BALANCE ON FILE IN CLERKS OFFICE) (STATEMENT ATTACHED)

You have to know a little bit about Cincinnati and it's racial history especially over the last 2 years since the riots...He along with the council members mentioned signed an agreement with the BUF Black United Front...to try to end the boycott and now they are trying to back out of it without meeting any of the conditions that were lined out...what happened was they basically didn't read Collaborative (the agreement) and the BUF did...now that they (city council) haven't done any of the things outlined in the agreement they want out...

He's rich, he comes from one of the richest family's in the city...he ran on this strong liberal campaign and now he is basically doing the opposite of everything he said he'd do...

hope that helps...but this is just my opinion...
why were you asked to back him? for what agenda?

Thanks for your thoughts, his father was ceo of P&G. and he is a liberal democrat. folks think he may be destined for statewide office or congress. in 96 we barely won Ohio and in 2000 we lost it to the republicans. if we had won ohio, florida would not have mattered and gore would have been president. so people like pepper are important in that mix.

i am somewhat active in the evaluation of candidates and pepper will be here on thursday and he is being hosted by mutual friends. as far as agendas, we try to focus on democratic candidates that support working class people and people of color, sometimes you have to hold your nose though

what do you think about the alternative?
