My sis-in-law has a long history with working with Refugee health and genocide issues, many years logged in Africa working at the front lines with genocide and refugee health issues there, as well as working with refugee resettlement in the Atlanta area.
I received this email from her today, looking to raise the remaining $200 to send an Afghani refugee girl on a class trip to DC learn about US history and politics. I gave $20 so they're down to $180!
If you do this, just click on the donate button on her website, and then in the "Purpose" area, signify what it's for. She's a 100% honest and good person, and she'll send you a receipt for tax purposes.
Anyways, here goes...
------------
Dear friends,
We've all been there. Our nation's capital. A place where even the most cynical of us get a little veklempt when standing in front of a certain monument or historical enclave. Each year, when refugee kids come here, though they come from all corners of the globe, they all want the same thing: to be an American.
International Community School--many of you may have followed their recent coverage in the New York Times--has planned field trip for spring break to Washington, DC. One of their students, a refugee girl from Afghanistan, wants very badly to go. The school held a fundraiser for her, and raised all but $200. That's right: $200.
I'm gonna pull a Barack Obama here, and say YES WE CAN, send this girl to Washington. Want to help? It's easy. Log on to my website www.jcause.org (http://www.jcause.org) Click on the secure paypal donation button, and follow the cues. If you want a tax receipt, put your address in the memo field. Want to send a check, that's good, too. Just send me an e-mail with your pledge amount. No amount is too small, and it's good karma, besides.
Much love and peace,
Lorrie
