That's some Jerzee shyt right there, 'clubbing'! Anyway when did you start, and what was the first club you went to? I started in 1980-81(13-14yrs old), poppin at block parties. In 1982(15yrs old) I went to the Garage. I was not ready I might add. That shit was like mainlining dope the first time you tried to get high. I didn't go back until 1983-4(16-17yrs old). I woulda went to Zanzibar, but one of Mom or Pops friends woulda dropped dime on me. Listening to the BLS dance party late at night, real low. Going to church with an attitude on Sunday cause ya been up to late making TAPES! M m m m m memories!

i was going to all ages clubs like Medusa's, here in Chicago when i was like 13-14.

the first 21 and over club i ever went to was this old gay club called Foxy's, when i was 17. for some reason they never hassled us for id's back then. they never said anything when we'd show up with our girlfriends either.
i guess they were just happy to see some fresh faces spending money at the bar.

got into house music when it started hitting the uk pop charts in the late 80's, didn't look old enough to get into a club until 94' when I got a fake id. I was 15-16.

Wow! Teen Disco's were around when I was 13. There was a cool one right upstairs from Dixons bike shop in Park Slope Brooklyn. This was like '78 '79. That shit was hot! Mom's used to let me go every week because it was good clean alcohol free fun. And the music was slammin. I remember battle dancing to songs like "Hot Shot" etc. We would do this kind of freestyle/top rock/breakin dance that looked like we were fighting but weren't. (umm hmm...beginnings of breakin and battling in the club) By the time I hit High School, it was on. Homeboy of mine intro'd me to the "G" , Bonds in Time Square, Zanzibar. I proceeded to lose my mind! Rarely had a problem with ID but had one a dem fake Times Square Specials just in case.

I was 13 I believe? I went to a couple of basement parties and birthday parties before that, but my official nightclub experience was at about 13. I would often visit my cousin in The Chi that was two years older than me between 85-89. During my first couple of visitis he would take me to all of the spots: The Music Box (Michigan & Lower Wacker), The Bismarck Hotel, and one ot two more. The Box was the greatest experience because nearly everything was new to me: (the culture, style of dancing, hearing the dj work the EQ, hearing people applaud the dj, crying to music, and comin home with ringning ears). I was already exposed to dance music through my older brother, area dj's, mixtapes etc., but actually seeing all of the dance culture together at one time was almost overwhelming. I remember seeing Ron Hardy, Frankie, Lil' Louis live in that era. I would take all of these experience back with me to Detroit and save 'em like gold until my next visit. Eventually I started going to parties in Detroit by social clubs like: Snobs, Incognito, and others. I would also go to The Music Institute in the late 80's and hear Derrick May and all of the hot Detroit Jocks. Boy... Those teenage years were the shiz-nizz!

I'd been listening to dance music for years before I went to a club. The first time I went to the club, Garage, I was in awe and didn't even dance. Before that were basement parties, 19 Lyons Ave. in Newark with some raw dance battles. The club had me like "ok" this is what it really looks like!

Reminiscing o.k, the first say club event that I went to was in Oxford St this would of been 84/85 I think. The club was Spats and on a saturday afternoon it was about b-boying and breakin and poppin. I was either 11 or 12 at the time, and was definetly not allowed to go into the west end.
What I find a little remarkable was that I was travelling solo to this place just to watch to breakers. It was such an intense scenario and very different to the current resurgence at events now.
I feel a little now that you gets people clapping around a breaker even if his move or style is not that good. Back then if you did'nt throw down proper then you did'nt get down. And if you did throw down but not that great, you would get someone to burn your ass !.
Next time clubbing would take over was 15yrs old and the trips to various dodgy warehouse in and around east London around late 88 early 89 but that's another story..

Peace Alex. :D

1992 - i was a freshman in college in atlanta - my mom never let me outta the house prior to that, i didn't even know or think about clubs or hear music like that till then ... it was a big change from jerry and frank (garcia and zappa), but it was soon an obsession
