Same here, especially after I found out that they were letting artists buy mic's (read: Made Men). After that, I switched to VIBE. No more Source for me ...

I knew about them selling the ratings to the highest bidder.I saw some lps that got 4-5 mics and they sucked, while some good quality shit that would have easily gotten mad mikes were underrated.

It was a disgrace. An award show to represent "The best" in hip hop and these fools showed up in sneakers, jerzees, baseball caps, bandanas, the women looked like prostitutes, at the end of the show they had two girls lip locking and tongue tossing on stage while the credits were rolling.

A DAMN SHAME!!!!!!

The only highlight was Kurtis Blow getting a lifetime Achievement Award.

Peace

I caught a glimpse of it while visiting a friends house all i saw was:

"South Side in Da House!" (half of the crowd cheered, the other half booed)

"SHOW SOME LOVE FOR ATL!" (half of the crowd cheered, the other half booed)

seriously, it is an emabarrasment, what happened people?

Yeah it was pretty weak I thought. At the end of the show it was like a damn circus with all the people up on stage. I stopped reading the Source a while back too! I would only read it for the GRAF FLIX..

This shit is destroying our culture. On the real, there aint nothing positive about what they did at that awards show.

I was watchin' Syracuse v. The Globetrotters.

I thought the Clown Princes of Basketball were supposed to be the minstrel show (they ballin' was real!!!!). I turned on the Source awards for a minute, and I never seen ANYTHING like what I saw on BET last Tuesday night!!!!!!

The sad part is, a lot of those folks on there are in our age group. Its a damn shame to see a 30 year old act like he is 19, and dress like one too. I was so embarrassed for uor people.

It was sick!!
I've watch it, but with regret that we couldnt come togather and have some type of Class about ourselves.
It seems as if people there wasnt about the awards, but to just represent where there from and how stupid they could sound on tv.
It was off key anyway's. Since when the last time anyone heard Benzeno make a top 10 song, yet he was up for an award?
I guess you have to be the owner of the source just to get good air-play of a shitty ass song.
No class, no since of even throwing something like that.
2 ladys locking lips at the end....do they mother knew about them being on stage like that?

I saw part of it while talking to my cousin in ATL. We were both like WTF??? It's that sh*t that has lil boys running around thinking it's cool to be a p.i.m.p. I find myself having to explain more and more things to my kids way before I thought I would have to. They go to school with kids and then they bring the crap home and make me have to get real with them and break it down way before I think their lil minds should be exposed to the subject matter.

But I can't blame it on Hip-Hop because there is more to Hip-Hop than what is represented on shows like that. It's not all about bling bling and be a ho or a thug. But that's what the powers that be are having us believe. Try real underground Hip-Hop..totally different mindset.

Talking about pimps, There was a section in the audience with nothing but pimps! Bishop Don Magic Juan and a bunch of other no shit pimps were up in there in there little section of the crowd. Pathetic.

It's the unprofessional mentality that overwelmed the show. I don't want to use the word Ghetto, because there are some positve aspects of ghetto life that are a part of Hip Hop culture. We need to go back to the old Motown days where the artists were taught how to dress, speak, and perform in front of an audience. If these labels today are actually training their artists, then it's a very sad situation.

Peace

But the crap they play on the radio is what the majority of the kids relate to as hip-hop. That crap that has catchy phrases and sometimes nice beats and adult content. Its that sh*t they play on the radio that tells lil girls they gotta have good sex to keep a man cause men have a tendency to cheat. WTF is that all about??? It's that sh*t that gets mega air-play but ain't talkin about a damn thing that is being pumped into the kids heads and that is what they associate with hip-hop.
