Apologies I lurk a little bit on this board, however my new years resolution is to be more active (on the board).. smile.gif
Can anyone recommend any good record shops that I should visit whilst in Tokyo?
Thanks,
Simon

there are alot of good shops in shibuya. you'll find them all over the place but the one in mind at the time is manhattan records. there's another one thats hot directly across from manhattan records. i forgot the name but you will be pleased with both. have a good time in tokyo.

You may want to try Cisco Music in Tokyo and Shibuya. I believe the main "house" store is in Shibuya. The Tokyo store may be more diverse in what they carry.

Don't forget to track down DMR as well! Cisco and Manhattan records are both great. Shibuya rules!! smile.gif Check this link, some of the shops may have mooved but then just ask in another shop - japanese people are very helpful!

If you don't have a guide in Shibuya, just ask for the 'Tokyo Hands' store, this will get you into the record shopping quarter, from there you'll hear the tunes being bumped from the stores and in the case of Manhattan, you'll smell the Sandlewood incense..
I would also recommend Nine State Records in Shibuya, they have loads of turntables and let you listen to their vinyl new and old in peace.
Everywhere else is one record and off, unless you're in DMR, where you can't play any of their stuff, but they put all new releases on CD listening posts.
Also, check CISCO House just up the hill from DMR, they have an impecable stock and I believe that DJ Nori is in charge of purchasing and classics..
Just one word of warning, there are no Customer Rights in Japan, so always check the product, if you walk out & your vinyl is jacked, scratched, a nasty mastered boot, then that's the way it is, don't even try to ask for an exchange, & a request for a refund could get you in front of the police - the shop is always right - I nearly got arrested for returning a Marshall Jefferson bootleg to DMR, kinda embarassing :D
