FABRIC...the most souless "club" I've been in years!
Just checked it out yesterday to check out Daniel Wang: horrible people, horrible atmosphere, hard beats, no soul!
Danny tried what he could, but with a half hour slot what could he do, really?Charles Webster and Ian O'Brien were real dull( although I usually like their productions ).
I didn't even dare to venture in the main rooms...

FABRIC: never again...

Yeah. . .I kinda felt the same way. It's shame, because it is a nice space, and they do bring some good people through. But the drugged-up kids, lasers, glowsticks, etc. really don't help. And the fact thatr they seem insistent on hard stuff and techno, it's near impossible to feel at home. The quality of the soundsystems also leave a little to be desired.

Generally speaking I've got to agree with you guys on this one. In the past I would go to Fabric, on the intention of seeing one particular DJ or act. I would never go to Fabric, for the sake of going to Fabric (if that makes any sense). I saw FK recently there and it was fun, however it was just too busy. They were over capacity and as imagine dancing was a bit of a joke. (Pogoing on the spot)
However, I have been impressed with there bookings. For a club of that size & cailbre, it would be easy to get the big guns every week.
I've only ever been once and kevin yost was on in the main room, was good but the crowd wasn't up to much... too many tourists.

been there only once.. it was kinda very slow trance all night. That evening the security was tight and you could tell not many people were high in the club.
I stayed and danced in the main room.
Never been back there since.

...personally, I was there about 3 weeks ago, had an incredible time for a 6-hour set, playing a broad variety of music to an audience that was not just showing appreciation, but Love. The staff treated me so nice, I wouldn't know what else to ask for. The sound system was clean, powerful and well cared-for. I can't speak for what their parties are like on other nights, but I sure look forward to playing there again in 2004!!
Thank you Fabric. (as well as thank you Whistle Bump, thank you Plastic People, thank you Sankey's in Manchester and thank you Traxx Events in Glasgow for recent U.K. gigs, which were all special in their own way) hail.gif

sankeys is excellent, love the atmosphere in there. :D

You really think that!!! I have alway said that Fabric has the best sound system in London by a mile and one of the best I have ever heard. But like anything it comes down to who's playing on it and how they are playing on it.
It's certainly better than Ministry IMO.
A
Is Ministry still open?

Fabric has a particular vibe on a Saturday night, and as long as you are willing to take it as it comes you can have a great time.
As a punter I like the fact that there are plenty of bars around, so finding a drink is easy, the unisex toilets make people feel mature and responsible, and even when it is packed you can always find some space, somewhere in the club.
As a DJ I have been blown away by the level of service the club offers it's artists. They are more than helpful and receptive to your needs and requests, as opposed to most other clubs where they just let you in and make you get on with it, because they have far more important things to be doing in a club.
OK, so it generally isn't the most soulful of places (for Soulful, read live basslines, flute solos and Earl Young drums), but it depends how you perceive your soul.
Next stop for me, Fabric December 6th.
I hope to see some of you there, maybe, perhaps.

Maybe there's another benchmark we can use. It doesn't really convince me ;)

I haven't been to Fabric for a while but the sound there was better than most other places in London.
Plus they do book really interesting DJs.
What is 'soul' anyway?

FK </font>[/QUOTE]I have to admit that I wanted to hear you 3 weeks ago but didn't cuz that club just makes me feel oppressed!
I believe when you play you draw your own ( good ) public, but this club is just usually full of tourists with hardly any knowledge about who's playing whatsoever.
On the opposite, when you play Plastic People, I'm looking forward to the gig weeks in advance.
Also, with all the money-power they got now, they don't seem to take any risks with the programmation; I mean I like tech-house( style they champion every saturday ) when it's good( I mean like Planet e ), but what I heard there didn't sound like music to me.
There's so much good music that just doesn't get played in those superclubs because the public is so generic...
Even if the music's good I can not concentrate cuz there's always someone in the way preventing you from closing your eyes...
I'm probably getting old!

the longest i have ever waited in line for a club was three hours for fabric a few years back. a friend was in from out of town and i had promised to take him there. once we actually got in (at 3:30 am) we were so numb from the cold (it was mid feb) that we didnt feel like dancing or drinking. i think we left after an hour.
since that time i have never waited more than 1/2 hour to get into a club... no club is worth even that long of a line, IMO.

What is soul? What is soul, babe?
Some few people really know
It's deep within us, it doesn't show
A soul is somethin' that comes from deep inside
But a soul is a somethin' that you can't hide
What is soul? What is soul, babe?
Search your heart, go deep down low
Way down there you'll find your soul
Come near girl, you look so cold
Touch my hand and warm your soul
Baby, baby, what's wrong with you
You don't know what I'm going through
Hold me so tight, so tight I can't breath
Can't you feel it girl? Don't you know what I mean?
This is soul!
This is soul! Feel the soul, babe!
What is soul, babe? Don't you know?

I don't know folks I played at fabric about 3 1/2 months ago, I played down stairs and it was packed and the people there were loving the deep soulful vibe that I was giving them and in fact the down stairs is suppose to close an hour before up stairs but it actually closed at the same time. I am suppose to be coming back in the new year hope to see you all there peace DjPope
