not only are the Capitol Building's fries now Freedom Fries, but they are buying a lot of Red/White/Blue stickers to put over the "French" in "French Dressing".

God, it's scary how ignorant those who make the decisions around here are.

The link above might be old by now. Basically it said that there were some people that wanted to petition to have the historical New Orleans French Quarter to be re-named "The Freedom Quarter". What next? Tear down the Statue of Liberty because it was given to us by the French? Is it pride? "If you are not with us,then you are against us" seems to be how we conduct ourselves in amerikkka. Please tell me I'm wrong. I really want to be. Peace.

You are encouraging people to vote nader, thereby increasing the likelihood that the opposition vote will be split again and Dubya gets another term.

nicholas, thats really not what i'm saying at all. i just made a very simple comment. for all intensive purposes i could have written "this wouldnt have happened if you had voted for naeema - VOTE NAEEMA". I said Nader instead of naeema because 1. my name wasnt on the ballot as far as i know, and 2. if nader was the president he wouldnt be declaring war on iraq.

it was just a simple comment, dont read so much into it.

It was a simple comment that was wrong.

You said this is why all of you should have voted for Nader.

When actually, this is the reason why all of you who voted for Nader should have voted for Gore.

VOTE NAEEMA!

give it back (http://giveitback.net)

read the comments in the petition - horrible!!
here are a few hand-picked examples:

"Change the torch hand into a hand with a giant middle finger!!! Then cut off her head like all the bloody french did!!"

"I would like to see one of you Socialists put up a good argument on why President Bush is a criminal or a "war monger". If you don't like it, move to Iraq. How about this? Why don't you move to France with the rest of the tree hugging socialist liberals?"

"Can we blow up all democrats? Starting with the Clintons and then the Kennedys? PLEASE?!?"

While this isn't quite as ****ing blockheaded as wanting to tear down the Statue of Liberty, it's still a good example. Some guy who owns some crappy little diner in town made the local news by not only doing the whole French thing, he renamed the "Turkey bacon burger", the "AMERICAN bacon burger." What the ****? Does that mean I'll be eating AMERICAN with my cranberry sauce and stuffing this thanksgiving? ****ing MORONS! graemlins/banghead.gif

No, its not 'wrong' - voting for the candidate you'd like to see as your leader is what the whole 'voting' process is all about. In the case of a new leader/party, vote splitting is common for the first few elections, but at least proportional representation will be the result.

Voting for a candidate strictly for the purpose of defeating another undermines democracy.

hold up one second on the "nader is how we got here" bullshit

first off, gore won the popular vote by over 500,000. he was elected by the popular vote. did nader have anything to do with the supreme courts decision to apoint bush president? i don't think so.

but beyond that, the race was only able to get so close b/c the democratic party did everything in its power to lose the election. ralph nader stands for issues that the progressives abandoned by the democratic party (in it's shift toward the right) care for deeply. the trouble is that in that abadonment the party chose no actual mandate.

beyond that, the two party system is obviously failing us if we're commonly found looking for "the lesser of two evils". the founding fathers never intended for only two parties. nader is a leader in an up-and-coming political party...why on earth should anyone expect him, or any other 3rd party leader, to drop out of the race simply because another party can't earn it's own votes.

so, if the democrats are looking to blame someone, why not start with the very leadership at the top of the party during the election? the democrats didn't carry tennessee (gore's home state), nor did they carry arkansas (clinton's home state)

if the democratic party is so great and wonderful and so clearly believes in freedoms that this administration does not then where were they when:

- the patriot act was passed
- they discarded their constitutional authority into the hands of a selected president hell bent on waging a war on iraq?

absent.

and where will they be with each bill for this worldwide war campaign that won't stop in iraq (and you can quote me on that). i suspect they'll be absent yet again.

so don't ****ing come to me with this "nader lost the election for us" bullshit. i can no longer stomach the hypocrisy and for-sale influence that the democrats are showing themselves to stand for.

in this country you have to WIN elections, not get them handed to you. at least that's how it's supposed to work. nothing is more repugnant to me than voting for the lesser of two evils instead of voting with your beliefs. all you ever end up getting when you do that is the very evil you bargained for.
