FYI, he is still the man.

So when I found the original sampled record for "In Memory of", I almost shit my pants. So let's talk samples.

Chic Bob James Marvin Gaye Deodato Space Curtis Mayfield ... ?

That's a good comparison. Maybe Moodyman/Primo and Theo Parrish/The RZA.

I've been listening to Ghost Face Killa's Ironman lately and some of those beats are just plain sick.

I see the similarities and love Moodyman, but he's put together like 5% as many quality tracks as RZA.

I was just listening to "Outer drive" which I have listened hundreds of times. The sample just hit me today. He's good, really good.

MM never fails me, that's what counts imo.

No disrespect intended.

I dug out that orange Peacefrog 12" after the thread the other day and noticed the sample of Don Ray's "Standing In The Rain". Nicely done.

I like those samples that take about 6 months to a year to figure out where they came from. I hate obvious samples.

Forgot which track it is, but MM also uses a sample from George Benson's 'Give Me The Night' in the smoothest possible way, the little female scatting part.

And how about Theo's Marvin Gaye sample from 'Inner City Blues' in 'Moment Of Instant Insanity', I only got that one when I heard Marvin's song a couple of weeks ago.

RD That sample was too obvious but I liked the track. I can't listen to the entire song because it gets a lil monotonous but it's cool and has a deep message.

Besides Gil Scott, what does he use on AmeriKKa?

for "Don't You Want My Love", that's CHic, no?

for that big track it's "Bob James" and "Marvin Gaye"

On "Black Mahogany" what does he use besides Curtis Mayfield?

for "In Memory of" he uses SPace.

On that 12" track with 3 parts it starts with Whistle Bump.

cmon ladies...

cmon ladies... Trainspotting in FULL effect, you lost me here. I started listening to MM before I discovered where it all came from, so preach on, I'm learning more every day!

I absolutely love 'Moment of...' by Theo, the monotonous style is just why I ultimately like him even more than MM. But that's a different discussion, carry on.
Knew the Bob James one though, classic example of how the sampled version beats the original one!

Would like to know from what song he sampled Prince for KDJ 09 'U Can Dance If You Want To'?

No, when you listen to the double pack, "m.e.a.n.d.n.j.b" fades out with some eerie ass sound then "Mahogany Brown" fades in with snippets of a fender rhodes riff with some beats in the background. There are no guitar riffs in this song, but there's a sick ass bassline that completes the track.

Peace That explains it, you need the 12", that shit is way better than the album version!!! It's more of a breakbeat too, I think the album has more of a 4/4 feel. There is like a 3 minute long intro or something crazy long like that on the 12". So ****ing deep and personal it's just real music regardless of the fact that it's all samples.

Other than the Obvious ones, "Daytona 500" by Ghost Face Killa being one of them.
Onyx, Soul II Soul to name a few.

Todd Terry's "Bounce to the Beat" sample's this classic. Masters at Work used the same concept for a female RnB group but I can't remember the song.

Peace Alex . ;) I know I've come across this sample in my cd collection. It's either on Herbie Hancock Head Hunters, Thrust, or its from my Mingus box set (as unlikely as that sounds). I'll find it tonight when I get home.

Spit it out people!!! Analog Live is "Nude Photo", isn't it? </font>
I thought I heard stuff that sounded familiar on that record. I've heard Nude Photo before but don't own it, so I wouldn't know which parts for sure. Which parts exactly?

Sorry, now I think I'm getting confused. I think what I was thinking of was 'Mahogany Brown' not 'Black Mahagony'. The lick from 'Mahogany Brown' is from 'Actual Proof' on Herbie Hancock's Thrust. Sorry.

Spit it out people!!! The string surges on 'Analogue Live' are taken from an early european industrial band. Either Laibach or Eistrurzende Neubausen. I THINK!

Hey. I noticed this one night... The drum break on Mahogany Brown is lifted from Third World - Now That We Found Love.

I don't think these were listed yet:

Soul (iwasbluntedonthismix) Party, &
U Got Me Blunted Up = Willie Hutch-Slick
Sunday Morning (KDJ 12" mix) = Sun Palace-Rude Movements
Moods&Grooves#5 a2 = Ten City (can't remember which)
KDJ 23b = Carl Craig-Suspiria
No Drum Machine (new 3 Chairs) = Karma-High Priestess
Drum Patterns & Memories (Godson; MM mix) = Peter Jacques Band-Fly With The Wind
Track 2 Track = Not sure of the origin of that snappy percussion, but also used on "Southside" by Dave Clarke.....!?!?

...all I can think of right now....

Off of the new LP that just dropped I heard the cowbells from Mr. Lee's "I Can't Forget", and 1/4 of bassline of Cerrone/Don Ray's "Gotta Have Lovin" on "Yesterday's Party".

FYI, "Yesterday's Party" is my favorite track off of the new album...

Same break as Ice-T's "Power", except he just loops the second half of the bar.

RMR </font>
Hmm.
My copy has neither mix listed. Side A is the vocal, side B has two instrumental versions; STD records, Holland 1983 (STD1201). I think the Continental mix was put out in 1984, on Bellaphon perhaps...??
I have a feeling one of my instrumental versions is the 'Dynamic Mix', though.
Hope this helps.
