Well this really smart dude claims NO. And he says it's not even desireable.
He seems to be agreeing with Moksha on some points.
Listen... Very intersting.

I think anything is possible. We live in a universe of infinity.

I believe men with self interest stand in the way not science.

The rules of logic deem any and all things are ‘possible’. The appropriate word is ‘plausible’.

we already found them... we need to dump a ton of money so people will come up with ways to use these energies effectively.

He’s trying to apply 19th century market philosophy ala economics 101 to the production of oil. Considering how much the oil is tied to the land, and whoever controls the land can control production, price, I’m not sure such basic economic stipulations apply? Especially in areas like Saudi Arabia so rich in oil.
Even if the Middle East was not run by zealots—as he referenced—I’m not sure so sure it makes much difference when it comes to oil?
He abstracts the idea that we’ve always been dependant for goods and services, using, again 19th century benefits to trade theory. Well all good and fine except I don’t think he wants to simply understand that Americans just don’t plain like our involvement in Mid East politics, see the reason as oil, and would just rather it not be so.
Considering we get most of our oil from Canada and South America, have you ever heard Americans complain about that? No! Meaning what they mean is: can we please get the fuck out of Middle East?
