i am of mixed feelings about the man...he is the embodiment of will to power (see Pumping Iron) and his background would lead one to believe he would not be a socially conservtive republican
on the other hand ...how is this man qualified to be Governor of California - the largest electoral state (i think) in the US?
very disturbing indeed

True, but in his case I would like to see if he has any smarts. Being in the 20 mil club paid as a dumb actor does not get it for me. Rather it scares me.
For anyone who thinks he is so great then maybe he should go run their state.
Been on this planet for a while, Joe....sos...nixon,/reagan/bush sr/Potato head i.e. bush sr VP...etc., etc.

Ps. sitting on a city council for a couple of terms does not make you a career politician.

Well, he's open up for everything now!
Im sure there's someone looking into his father's past as a Nazi Sargent or something as such.
But if you think about this, this isnt gray davis fault, it's the legislators fault!
Yet there isnt anyone looking into that. Bush dumb ass want's a republican there, then california would be ripe for the picking's for the republican's.
People realy need to wake up on this, all of the sudden Bush dumb ass is giveing press conference to endorse Arnold. The white house is spending more money in california, the guy who started the ball rolling on this step aside due to white house pressure to let a known star like Arnold take his place.
I say, let's recall Bush dumb ass!
Wake up people, the only thing Reagen did for me was to hold a war on drug's, and some how, at the same time, crack cocaine became the norm for every minority and poor income neighborhood's.
Go figure?!?!

PPs. Come on....Calif can come up with someone better than this ????? </font>[/QUOTE]i never said that sitting on a city council meant you were a politician(i should have been clearer). i was pointing out that this guy is NOT a career politician so maybe that was a good thing because we have been wronged by career pols, like the ones you mentioned, so i was just throwing out the other side and something to think about. i guess i respect arnold because of what magus pointed out. i don't know too much but i do enough that he has inspired me in a few ways so i don't really have anything against him. plus, i wouldn't be so quick to judge him as dumb because he is an actor. dumb or not, he has proven to have a big heart so i'm gonna sit back and see what happens.

Maybe, just maybe if every resident/voter in California filed to run for Governor x $3500.00 registration fee than the debt would be erased.
Sound to far fetched??

i was struggling over this in a post earlier, as well.
He really is a nice, honest, decent guy. That Arnold. But governor? It's just not the responsible level-headed thing to do!
But then again, if the GOP is orchestrating the recall,..I have to ask myself,
which is more dangerous?
A Republican in office who knows what he is doing or a Republican who doesn't?

I was reading in the papers over here that Arnold was doing the rounds on TV the other day and was caught out on policy over and over.
One thing about Reagan - he was a nasty right wing conservative but he had a philosophy he believed in. What is Arnold's philosophy? Does he think this is another movie? This vanity project will affect real people's lives.
Beware the wolf in sheep's clothing. The puppetmasters pulling Arnie's strings are the real people to be afraid of I would think.

This morning on Meet the Press, they was wondering why didnt Arnold answer so key question about the state.
Yet everytime he gave an answer, he gave it as a joke, no substance, no material, just him jokeing about the hardest this that he's done was get his skin wax.
WTF? SKIN WAX?
Yet people want this man to lead, yet he's leading them on!

He really is a nice, honest, decent guy. This is startling. Is this opinion based on a personal relationship with Arnold, or a well-crafted screen persona (and aggressively marketed films)?
I agree with David. This is a candidate whose film and bodybuilding career proved so powerful that the public cares little about policy. I can understand why young people---really young people---are seduced by image. But adults?
Here's an intersting piece on the Ah-nuld/ governatorial debacle:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/g2/story/0,3604,1014398,00.html
This race will be more entertaining than any of Arnold's movies. I'm curious what Alastair Campbell will dig up on The Terminator.

KW, no. Grace and Andy Warhol. Yes. I sought them out. It was a great day in Hyannisport!
(that's where I'm from. they got married in my church in Centerville, which is actually where I'm from , 2 miles away. tiny new england villages are distinguished by every 2 miles or so.)

Funny, I've never heard of Centerville. It's been ages since I've seen the Cape but I remember Hyannisport as being inviting for a preppy town.

i don't know why anyone in their right mind who is not a part of the $20 mil club would ever vote republican. a minority republican has got to be one of the biggest oxymorons of the 20-21st century. schwartzennegger, give me a break. i hope in cali don't dissapoint like a lot of america in 2000 (im sorry, broward county, i know u voted).

The total count of people now running for governor is (as a Cali resident) an embarrasing 125! ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FIVE people shelled out the dough to run for gov! It's become such a joke. For f*ck's sake Larry Flynt is running.
People are excited about Arnie just b/c of who he is. People also don't think about the repercussions of the recall.

A.S. to me is a Trojan Horse for Calif. He will have to ultimately follow the rules and ways of the Republican Party if elected. The "gang" in white house will see to that. As far A.S. he obviously takes direction well from being in the movie business.
Interesting enough that even tho' his wife supports her husband, is still a staunch Democrat .... will she actually vote for him? (She is also a Kennedy.)
Ummnnnnnn.
Rush Limbaugh has been on the attack with A.S. But I see that as a sneaky way to indirectly appeal to the liberal democrats to vote for A.S. ...thinking he's the way to go. Get my drift? It is the only way he will get elected is with their votes.
Meanwhile all these "start struck" people and the media are certainly causing a lot of distraction of Bush and other important issues....this benefits Bush.
What ever happens I hope it will be for the best...because I for one am fed up with the direction that America has taken in the last 2 1/2
years.
d
Ps RECALL BU$H
PPs. ALSO! Gore got the "majority of the votes" but the Supreme Court decision not allowing a recount .....selected Bush. Now Grey, whether you like him or not also got the "majority of the votes" just last Nov. He has been in office (2nd term) less than a year and the Republicans (they started this recall thing) found another loophole to create political instability once again and as a result another hostile takeover is in play. Florida hijacked...now Calif.?
America wake up!

on a side note and a scary note at that, i read that when bush goes up for re-election it's estimated that he will have contributions that will top $200Mil(a new record). wtf. the thing i'm wondering about is, who at this point really has the best interest of the people? how can we get companies to stop their overwhelming influence on our goverment and can we get the majority of america to agree on how the goverment should affect our lives? we're talking about a democracy that's constantly bought and sold and abused like your local hooker. sure everyone see's what's going, but you still got people who buy, sell and kick her to the curb and then say they don't what that shit in their neighborhood.... what i'm saying is what is good for the people and do we even know anymore? are the majority even educated well enough to make that decision anymore? will i ever stop asking questions?
excuse me, i blew a fuse!
