View Full Version : Legends of.....in May???

How many of you are eager to attend the Legends of House jam-e-jam coming in May, which is billed to be a psucfest of magnanimous proportions?
Before you answer let's look @ a few simple things..... What is a Legend?
leg·end –noun 1. a nonhistorical or unverifiable story handed down by tradition from earlier times and popularly accepted as historical:rolleyes:.
2. the body of stories of this kind, esp. as they relate to a particular people, group, or clan:eek:: the winning of the West in American legend.
3. an inscription, esp. on a coat of arms, on a monument, under a picture, or the like.
4. a table on a map, chart, or the like, listing and explaining the symbols used. Compare key1 (def. 8).
5. Numismatics. inscription (def. 8).
6. a collection of stories about an admirable person.
7. a person who is the center of such stories: She became a legend in her own lifetime.
8. Archaic. a story of the life of a saint, esp. one stressing the miraculous or unrecorded deeds of the saint.
9. Obsolete.:wtf: a collection of such stories or stories like them.
—Synonyms 1. Legend, fable, myth refer to fictitious stories, usually handed down by tradition (although some fables are modern). Legend, originally denoting a story concerning the life of a saint, is applied to any fictitious story, sometimes involving the supernatural, and usually concerned with a real person, place, or other subject: the legend of the Holy Grail. A fable is specifically a fictitious story (often with animals or inanimate things as speakers or actors) designed to teach a moral: a fable about industrious bees. A myth is one of a class of stories, usually concerning gods, semidivine heroes, etc., current since primitive times, the purpose of which is to attempt to explain some belief or natural phenomenon.
Definitions #1 & #9 pretty much summarize the scene on a commercial scale:acclaim:.
Frankie plays whatever(I stopped listening after I purchased the whistle song cassette. His vision & sound of where we should be going was totally different from what Louis(Lil) was installing into our culture.
Frankie vs. Louis
Light vs. Hard (sound)
club vs. underground (music)
happy vs. mad (tracks)
shallow vs. deep (swimming pool)
Andre's got the chitlin circuit on lock and has a large following of rudy-poot dj's, who play the same isht as he does:conf06:.....and if Chicago's #1 southside dj only plays a few chosen songs then I guess he belongs to the right dj crew:biglaugha:.
Pharris the dude who lied to XXL or Source about bringing hip-hop to Chicago & didn't mention a thing about house, the music, or the culture. He's second best to the master(boolu). Commercial House at its best.
I'm still bogged down from issuing out truancy slips to individuals who were absent from the History of House Class, August 2007, but were in attendance to hear Brian Reeves, Izrail, and Glenn Underground bang outdoors by the lake for free99 @ the attic's last outdoor function. Then, I heard some of you were scared as hell from the Haunted House:scared: function. And lastly,I didn't here anything about the Thanksgiving House Bash:jpshakehead:.
Alright whose got their tickets????

House is more a state of mind.Especially in chi.
Some folks kept up and some were just along for the ride.
Like I've said before, the real soldiers have been putting in work for years...and never looked back.
Until folks learn to not even put energy into the commercial shit and what they are doing, these discussions will always occur. They really make folks look silly, when you add it all up,cause the cats who are making money, could give a fuck less about the underground..or trying to be deep or any of the other shit some folks complain about.
They STILL are gonna make their loot, regardless if deep heads think it's watered down or not.
It's not even worth it to trip on the music another jock plays. When cats do that,it makes them look bitter and jealous...and makes the jock they are buggin on even MORE popular.
My opinion:I could give a fuck less what the next man is doing...or about who's this or that when it comes to house music.
I lived it...it saved my life, but I don't need to wear the shit on my sleeve, like I am the deep house authority and shit...

It don't matter...and that's my point.
Folks like who they like and even if they are the most horrible dj's to some, they must be doing something right,if they are still at it,after being in the game for years.
I used to think and see shit the same way, like you are posting.
What changed my whole perspective???
I went outside of Chicago and saw that my little world really wasn't shit.
It showed me that it's much bigger than what I thought it was.
See,that's how house music got pimped from Chicago artists in the first place.they only thought and saw things on a local scale, when there's a whole world out here.
You add some business sense to the equation and you have the events that you despise poppin off and the low budget shit, being low budget.
I don't trip on what cats are doing anymore..haven't done that in years...because the ONLY dj I am concerned about is me...plus it's a watse of time and energy.

I've been hearing a nice buzz about it and several fine HONIES said they were going. I miss the good old days when dimes were at House Music gatherings on a regular so I'm anticipating a good time. It reminds me of MOVE from 2 years back. There were babes that I have never seen at any function and it wasn't promoted like this baby has been. Also, whenever FK plays here or nearby, I'm there. Add Andre to the mix and this sounds like a bonafide winner. Steve and Pharris ain't no bums either. Frankie & Andre period would have thrilled me to death but this is for real as well as casual/new heads. In this case, if it attracts the hotties, I wouldn't give a damn if ten jocks were playing. I bet it turns out to be one of the best parties of the year.

I thought the same about the "crowd" that this event might attract at first, but after futher thought I've decided to go. First I agree that the Frankie, and Andre combination no matter who throws or sponsor the party will be a treat. Second It will be nice to hear what Steve and Pharris are up to, its been too many years since, I've heard either one play. Third, as a matter of support for my fellow dj's and 3 of my mentors, I WILL be in attendance!

As the night approaches, I get more excited thinking about it. I haven't heard Frankie and Andre together in years. This will be crazy fun. Also, some people will always talk shit. Several heads including me were pissed about the Zentra door staff when FK played there in December and many have moaned about door policies at other spots out that way. Now, we get a chance to hear The Godfather somewhat closer to home and people are still pouring salt. I already have my tickets and can't wait to experience what Frankie has in store for Dolton.

I remember his Summerdance performance. There were croungers, ancient heads, newbees, and casuals along with Knuckleheads. Frank served it up his way and you couldn't even move on that dancefloor. I've seen it happen at Green Dolphin, Sound-Bar, MOVE, and Zentra. That man will make you dance. I remember when DHP (back in 1999-2000)would have post on how to get the Hip Hop Crowd to appreciate House Music. You would get all kinds of crazy responses.....To the point of a "defeatest" additude of "Let them party they way they want to-we did it our way let them so the same"....it was interesting to say the least....

Please let us know when you throw your next event. You must have Frankie, Andre, Timmy R, Tony Humphries, Dimitri, Joe Claussell, and Joey Negro beat. With all of this extreme hatred popping off, you must be a one man MAW. Chicago has many dj legends and great promoters but I can't wait to check out one of your events. What, no alternative to The Legends Party? I think Miguel Migs and Lisa Shaw are at Zentra that night so I guess you have to throw your shindig at Slappy's Ham House or Chondra's Chitterlings & Cuts. Clee's Cockroach Hall may be open on May 9th. Maybe, you can have an afterparty there. Bottom line, it doesn't matter if the party was promoted after every song played on each radio station. It was promoted better than most parties going on these days. This is solid proof that House needs some radio/mainstream exposure like it had back in the day. The mixture of mainstream and underground info worked wonders back then. There are plenty of Dusties/Steppers, Hip-Hop/R&B, and Latin flavored formats on the radio today but not much going on for the heads. This proves that many people still want to jack but are out of the loop when it comes to House. I hope to see more big events like this as well as what we already have going on. It truly is time for one unified House Family.

Please let us know when you throw your next event....Okay. You must have Frankie, Andre, Timmy R, Tony Humphries, Dimitri, Joe Claussell, and Joey Negro beat.....No, will not have one of 'em. With all of this extreme hatred popping off,....no hate...just concern you must be a one man MAW. Chicago has many dj legends....
leg·end –noun 1. a nonhistorical or unverifiable story handed down by tradition from earlier times and popularly accepted as historical. and great promoters but I can't wait to check out one of your events....once again, okay. Maybe, you can have an afterparty there.....Okay you're obviously not from Chicago, since you can't name the the places we tend to be...just stay out shit you're not knowledgeable of :cussing:. Bottom line, it doesn't matter if the party was promoted after every song played on each radio station....sorry, but it does. It was promoted better than most parties going on these days....over the radio....It's the only party. This proves that many people still want to jack but are out of the loop when it comes to House.....no this just proves that people outside of the loop still seeking to be a (house) head....but continue to proceed looking thru the rear view mirror....not knowing where they're headed.

I'm born and raised in Chicago and I've been a true head for damn near 30 years. This old man knows all the spots but I don't do the crounges because I can dig through my library for flashback shit and a lot of sick new heat also. I mentioned Zentra because that's the only party that comes close to this one on May 9th. I can always check the Chicago Parties section of this board for other things and my cool ass friends keep me connected. So, hate on hater because I'm done with this topic. The party is sold out and all of your "concern" probably helped sell some of the tickets. You are an awesome promoter and I'll be looking forward to your next event.

Look here junior....I did get crounges from this site and I thanked that person for it. My vernacular comes from all over. If I like something, I rock it. Also, I don't have to mention every House function on a site that already has a section for that. You can have the last word now. My work on this thread is done. I shouldn't have read this latest post but I won't be reading any more in this dead thread. Don't forget to let us know when you have your perfect House bash.
