I'm starting up my own night shortly and i'm just wondering how much I should charge on the door, I was thinking about £3 with flyer £5 without, is this reasonable.

It's a different economy over here, so I guess it's all relative to where you are, most nights are 21 quid over here, Body & Soul tonight and tomorrow is 42 quid - you pay what you have to and on the upside 42 quid buys you 25 pack of Marlboro Lights ;)
Is you night in Glasgow or Falkirk Barrie?
I think $10-$15 is fair enough. Any more than that and there better be a supah star up in there.
In principle, a fair price is a price that only extracts that amount of money out of the party crowd's pockets that is needed to keep the (i.e your) organisation going..With taking into account a certain risk ratio..
What costs do you exactly have ?

Sounz aboutright to me Barry, i presume that'd go up if you flew a guest in. One tip, make that £5.00 to £4.50, people will think they got a bargain.

Thanks for the tip Danny, I think that sounds about right as alot of the other places in my area charge £7 before 12PM and then £10 after that.

Hey Lyot sorry about that mate, I will be doing that eventually, but I need to get a good regular crowd established first and get the cash coming in.

What's the deal you've got with the venue ?

Another tip barrie, bring in some up & coming DJ's who have their friends with therm, a good way to make the numbers.

Hey Lyot, basically I get the door they get the bar and provide the staff, I provide the music, promotion and the crowd. I'm gonna start off monthly and see how it goes, if all goes well then maybe fortnightly. The venue holds 250 - 300.
and make sure you have a policy concerning dj fee's.. You should determine how much you want to pay.. Do not ask the dj what he wants to get for playing, but have a 'fixed' fee.. (calculate what the costs are that you have, and set a fee that's reasonable)..It's helpfull since it means the cost will be more or less the same for each party.

The venue holds 250 - 300. that is exactly the same policy we have had here in Belgium when we dealt with venues. And the size is perfect..
We've 7euro entrance fee...Last year, we did a break even with 250 people..This year even less (200) (the euro is getting stronger towards the $) ..You can bring in US dj's without much trouble, once you have got your crowd esthablished.. That is the most difficult part though..
good luck ! graemlins/thumbsup.gif

The hard part's finding the venues!

Make sure you've got a good insight on what people think after the first party..If the majority doesn't like the spot, it might be difficult to build something on the longer run.

We have at last found all of the above where we're at now, it's only taken about 7 years, suppose the system could be better...although we may start to hire in some additional tweeters & midrange speakers, should the crowd stay regular, early days yet.

Best of luck Barrie. I'm thinking about doing the same thing in Paisley but that could be game for a laugh over here. I'd keep it as cheap as possible though and try and get the bar to put on a few promos, cheap booze= more bodies. :D

Because there is little more annoying than when you've paid £10.00 (or more) to go to a supposedly "quality" club and find yoursrelf dissapointed at the lame standard of music/dj's/punters. Especialy when you know you could have gone somwhere else paid £3.00 or so, and received the exact opposite.
Personaly I think your door price is fair, but if you've put on an act that's cost you serious dough I wouldn't mind paying £8-£10.00.
Look after your punters, and they will flock to you time, and again.
Peace.

Craig, this must be a bam up? Club buddah was actually a pretty good space, they tried a few house nights and a couple of northern soul/ funk nights I think. The club is now closed. Still gotta keep tryin'.

Club 30 is it the one across the road from O'Neils. I used to play football with a couple of guys from Paisley and ended up in Club 30. Totally tacky as **** but I still ended up shagging some danish bird that had a house next to Love St, there was a bowling club and a garage next to her house thats all I can remember.

Craig you are right. Lovely place Paisley. Club 30 as you found is full of slappers and bawbags. Furry Murrays is full of youngsters, off their chumps on alchopops and hormones. It's worse than the Glasgow one( but I did meet my bird in Furrys). Apart from Club 69 there is nothing in Paisley and even then Club 69 is a bit too techy for my tastes. It's a bad situation. Paris was actually my first club gig! I was heartbroken when they turned it into offices. We did actually have a "Garage" here. It then became the Area, and went through a multitude of name changes/refurbs until it finally closed recently. The owners are the same people who own Budda and are completely clueless to how clubs work. Club 30 is now Viennas. Glad to say I haven't been! Though I did play there a few times when it was Toledo Junction. Aah, the memories!
That's a top notch tour through Paisleys finest clubs Al. I remember the garage but I was too young to go. Was the arena not OK for a bit, maybe not. Do you think there could be a decent club in Paisley? I doubt it but what do I know? graemlins/stupid.gif
