View Full Version : Early house cuts ahead of their time

So I'm home last night blowing the dust off a couple of records and played Rhythim is Rhythim's
"It Is What It Is" and "Feel Surreal" (two of my favorite cuts of all time) and thought "damn! these cuts were way ahead of their time!!".

Sooo...looking back, what other house (yeah, I know RisR was early Detroit Techno) cuts were ahead of their time?

What up, Darrow?
I'm gonna piggy-back on Rhythm is Rhythm; 'The Dance'...definitely a track I always liked. Also on the Transmat label, 'R-Theme/R-Tyme'. IMO, these two tracks were ahead of their time.

Peace

Peace ahhh yes...R-Theme/R-Tyme was a very different sort of track. Friends (the non-heads ones) HATED when I played that.

Cool. I wish I could remember what I thought when I first heard it except that I loved it.

I have a version that is on a compilation album of Chicaog House. Now I'm wondering if this version is the same as one of what I see listed on the 12" as the Club Mix, Instrumental, and Radio mix.

Ahead of it's time?
I'm judging this on the fact that these cuts made producers go back to the lab and fatten up their production skills.
On the production tip...

1. Let the Music Play - Shannon
2. I Remember What You Like - Jenny Burton
(flipside "Players"...oooweeee!)
3. Breakers Revenge - Arthur Baker
4. Percolator - Cajmere (played out track but started a new production trend)
5. Mystery Girl - on IHR (i think that's the label)

My vote goes to Jazz Documents "Secret Code".
I played this song the past weekend and while the track was playing I was thinking exactly how ahead of its time this track was.
Nice to see Big Will is into it too...
And to the MAW Mix for Mondo Grosso "Souffles H".
One of my favorite tracks of all times.

Face It - Master C&J
Now this is some timeless sh8 right here....I was at a party last week and the dj dropped this and a friend and I was discussing how C&J must have been high when they did this gem....pure genius...this is a good tune when you are in the party and stright and even better when you are high....all that Master C&J was ahead of it's time..."living for the City", "Mama's Boy", "I can't get Enough", "Fantasize Me", and my all time favorite "When you hold me"(I could be wrong on the exact name, I own it and only remember colors)....that might be one of the best all time tripping record.

I also think that Altered State record was ahead of it's time and the BlueJean record with the wild birds sounds....

"You Don't Know"
Billie's "Nobody's business"
Eddie Grant's "Nobody got time/Time Warp" and "California Style"
"Powerline"
ESG "Moody"....always get the asses moving...never fail!
"Music is the Answer"...Colonel Abrams
"Dancing in Outer Space"....you know they were in outer space when they made that.
"Plasti Dreams" JayDee..
any one of the Blaze hits....
"Voices in My Mind"...MAW

so many....
