Would hooking up a sound mixing board..(an old BI-AMP) to a line on your DJ mixer be the way to go to do live sound? Wouldn't that be like adding extra lines to your system?? The mixing board had 8 lines already..so just hook that to a line in my mixer and I should be good..NO??

I think it depends on what your trying to do. Are you trying to hook up more devices that your mixer can hear simultaneously? Are you tring to play with a band? Speak more on your intent please.

It is always the other way around in my experience. Hook up the main outs of your mixer in to a mixing board.

Rich see Julian's post. The best way is to come out of your mixer into the soundboard.

Hmmm so just run my main thru the mixing board..So I actually am only using ONE line of the mixing board to run all of the stuff that on my DJ mixer...Makes sense..
Last question..The amps that are driving my DJ system will drive what is going into the mixing board right??

That is correct regarding using one channel on the Mix board. I would also suggest having the output of the mixer to go into the soundboard directly instead of sending a powered out put into the mixing board. You'll have level problems and may blow the speakers.

What Steven and DJ 138 said Rich, lol. Its better to run your dj mixer thru the bigger mixing console as to get cleaner power and more headroom. The live band is gonna have to go thru the console anyway, so it gives whoever's engineering more leeway and control over the total sound and not just the band.

So I'd be running the amp to the soundboard instead of the DJ mixer..right??

DJ Mixer ----> Soundboard ------> sound processing (eq, crossover, etc.)------> Amps ----> Speakers

Yup...but technically you'd be running the soundboard to the amp.

Yeah, let the console be the "brain" of the sound since dj mixers aren't usually set up to mix live sound anyway. Plus you'll have more channels to work with and much more control over the overall mix.

Rich if this is concerning next month give me a call. As you know I have experience with this from live music events, recording live instrumentalist and DJing.
I also disagree with connecting a live sound mixer into a DJ mixer. Usually it's ran the other way around.

You guys have brought up a couple of interesting points. I use a mixing board because I often have live performances at my events. But the way you guys just described things I wonder how I got all my stuff working(lol). Here's a pic of the small mixing board that I have. It's a powered board.

So I take the Mic out on my dj mixer and--->to the input of my Serato mic in, & take the Serato mic out---->and put it in the main out(maybe ctrl out) of the mixing board.
I have the record out of my mixer going--->into the tape in on the mixing board. I plug the PHones port into my laptop for recording everything plugged into the mixing board and dj mixer. I use the Phones volume to control the record level, and use the Main Mix slider to increase the board's volume. I've had mic's, keyboards, & guitars plugged into the board.
For this board the 'tape to ctrl room' & 'tape to mix' must be pressed down.
This took me many hours when I first started hooking things up to the mixing board. If anyone knows a more simple way of doing this I'm open to suggestions. My only problem is that I have to turn the mic volume on the dj mixer down to level 2. But the output is still loud.

That's a good mixer. A keyboard player buddy of mine uses that same board for his whole rig, which includes a Triton, three mics, and a keyboard controller. Behringers might not be as "high end" as a Mackie, but they definitely are more road ready.

You don't want to use the outputs that would normally go straight to your speakers, if they are powered by an amp.
You need to use line-level outs on your DJ mixer and send that to the house board that the band's going into.
