correct me if i'm wrong, but didn't it happen in the Congo the other day, a massacre of around 1000 people in under 2 hours?
Anyone know any of the facts on this?

KINSHASA (AFP) - A massacre of civilians in Democratic Republic of Congo's (DRC) Ituri region is believed to have claimed "between 150 and 300 lives", an official in the UN observer mission in DRC has confirmed.
Based on "witness reports", the United Nations had on Sunday put the death toll in last week's massacre in the northeastern DRC village of Drodro at "at least 1,000".
On Wednesday, UN special envoy to the DRC and the second highest ranking official in the United Nations MONUC mission, Berhooz Sadry, said on UN-run Radio Okapi that it was now believed "some 300 people have been killed."
Sadry had given the earlier death toll of "966 people, most of them ethnic Hemas in the village of Drodro in Ituri, killed by attackers" believed to belong to the rival Lendu ethnic group.
"The other people included in the earlier toll were injured, some very seriously, in machete attacks," said Sadry on Wednesday, adding that "a MONUC inquiry is continuing."

Anyone know any of the facts on this? I heard about this on the radio yesterday...
This is a real and legitimate reason for intervention and liberation.

we don't "liberate" if there is no $ involved.
and we can't think of anything to exploit in the Congo right now. Hell, is there even the continent of Africa on the White House maps?

exactly...where's bush and his boys now? how about ongoing slavery practices in several african countries...nobody in bush's crew mentions that as a reason to 'liberate'...

Donger - so why not just stop the pretense of "liberation" and say, "we are out to benefit ourselves in monitary terms."
Don't worry, I'll be posting a thesis on all of this very soon.

Don't worry, I'll be posting a thesis on all of this very soon. I've been saying this all along. I would much rather have the U.S. say, "We don't like Saddam and want to kill him and we will also get some oil when we are done."

That's not how the game of politics is played. You have to create scare tactics first. If our gov't actually told the truth, we'd be trying to overthrow it right now.
