Behind the Art: DHP Interview(ish) of artist Linda Mathis
http://deephousepage.com/jpegs/killthejockey.jpg
Hi again Linda,
Was up last night and logged onto the page and the new painting got a "whow!" out of me. Probably 'cause the blue and yellows and white made it seem icier than the oranges and yellows of your other paintings. Another eyecatching piece of work. The illustrations remind me of some of the illustrations in "children's" books that I read that later as an adult found were full of hidden meaning and probably not so child oriented.
I've heard the term lawn jockey before and honestly have no knowledge of the history and meaning behind it. Yes I could look it up and find out but I really am more interested in your knowledge of it and how this is transferred to your work. What thoughts and feelings are you trying to invoke in the viewer? How did this subject come to mind for the painting?
Again another wonderful piece. The man with the sunglasses is amazing! His colouring and the creases in his face are so life like he really is coming out of the painting at me.
Much respect to you and hope to read your response.
