Battleground — King of the Court

Even with the best local team playing across the river these days, basketball is still the City's game. After the success of last year's Battleground competition — which featured some of the premier one-on-one players from NYC and LA — the organizer and recent LeBron James sweepstakes winner, Nike has expanded the tournament to include hoopsters from Chicago, Philadelphia, and Toronto with each city King rewarded a cool $10K, a Nike sneaker contract, and a billboard at his favorite court. Today's mano a mano battles represent the NYC finals, and the winner goes on to play in the nationals held on Sat 8.9 in NYC, with $25K and their very own sneakers up for grabs. And with our beloved Knicks still looking for lots of help, who knows what court this king could land. (SL)
Note: Free tickets available at Dr. Jays and Niketown. Late breaking news! Mobb Deep (live) and DJ Enuff provide the musical soundtrack at the court.

Performances from M.O.P., Freddie Foxxx, Uncle Howie Goons, Immortal Technic, Jedi Mind Tricks, Soul Purpose, Jean Grae, Non Phixion, DJ Evil D, DJ Tony Touch and more!
Also featuring the International Turntablist Federation (ITF) East Coast Regional DJ battle.
Competitors include:
Complex (NYC), Shiftee (NY), Esquire (NYC), Marcus (VA), Lenn Swann (Detroit), Abstract (Puerto Rico), I-Dee (VA) and Trife (NYC). The champion of this battle will be flown to San Francisco for the ITF US Finals on Oct. 4th, 2003.
AND...this is actually on SUNDAY...
