A follow up to my other post...
So what new cuts seem ahead of their time?

generally speaking, there is lots of new music out there that never gets a chance to reach it's full potential because of nerds like us that don't give it a chance to mature. the average music listener isn't as deep into the music as we are.

Say Goodbye - Khan
Sick French - Avirel (sp)
"Nancy Wilson" - Alan Smithee

I'm always hungry for something new, but even that my "something new" often has elements of something old in it, which means I'm often staying closer to my comfort zone than even I admit to myself.
Ptaah is a good example of someone who stretches my comfort zone. His stuff is definitely out there and sometimes I really do have to put aside my stuff to appreciate his work.
So easy a protic can do it (QUAD)

to name a few... "NANCY WILSON?!?!?!" DAMMIT! I NEED TO HERE THAT ONE! DOES ANYONE HAVE A COPY OF THIS???? CAN I PLEEZE ADD THIS TO MY RECORD COLLECTION???? hail.gif hail.gif
There have been very few occasions where I've heard something and *known* that it's cutting new territory... What Tony says is very true, although I'd go even further and say that there's a lot of experimental stuff that won't even be released let alone bought in quantity...
In other words, if stuff is too far out, the labels wont take the risk in the first place.
On the other hand, I personally thought Beau Mot Plage by Isolee was 'next level', and people like Cornelius often make me wanna push harder into the 'edit/glitch/electronica' sound, but it's hard to find enough good stuff.
Peace, roki

Peace, roki Seriously.
I have a hard time finding tracks I really feel in that area. I am, admittedly, a complete novice when it comes to all the glitch/click stuff, so I guess it's hard to find the real gems when you don't know where to begin...
Regarding artists ahead of their time----I find these cats always inspire me with their ingenuity:
Wolfgang Voigt
Rhythm & Sound
Theo Parrish
Kenny Dixon Jr.

I think the Two Banks of Four stuff is another example of something that is at the least progressive (and I don't mean the genre progressive house) and maybe even possibly ahead of it's time. Gallagher and Demus' "Last Dance" from Two Banks of Four (vol 1?) from a couple of years ago was definitely an odd but very hot cut. I listened to the newest Two Banks of Four album last night but need to listen again to get a feel for it.

I submit that it is IMPOSSIBLE to know if something is ahead of its time without the benefit of time having actually passed and the item in question having gained the perspective of history

That meant that a) people couldn't care less about the thread b) there is little or no "ahead of it's time" music being produced in House and/or c) it's just not possible to identify that quality until The Time has passed.
I remember the first time I heard Fingers Inc.'s Can You Feel It, I remember feeling like it was a sound/vibe I had never heard before. I was totally amazed and sad at the same time...sad, because I felt like there was something I had been missing before hearing that cut. But did I think it was ahead of it's time? I don't know. Different, yep. Innovative, yep. Out of step with the usual, yep.
