Thanks Herb...I was really trying to fly under the radar for this on.
As some of you guys know, I love this party...love, love it...Ron and Daryl does a great job with this party and raise money for some worthy causes. They ask me to play and I am very honored to do this.
This is the music I love to dance to, the music I grew up on and the music I love to play...got more of it in my collection than anything else. But here is the kicker: I am nervous as hell with anticipation and anxiety, because I will be playing for the children - the real children- many of whom are my Paradise Garage buddies and memebers, and as y'all know, even though we have fun, we are very finicky and the music better come correct.
So with that being said, liL Ray will not be drunk tomorrow night until after the set...hahaha
So please come out and cheer me on, yell at me, boo me, push me, or just wish me well. It is a great party for a great cause (National Black Theatre of Harlem), an afterwork early party, and the BEST 4 HOUR PARTY with the greatest set of people you will ever attend (IMO).
Thanks again to Herb, and also to Ron and Daryl for having me play at this great event.
...and now back to burning vinyl to cd...heeheeheehee

Ridiculous!! If you had to pick one TUNE that would capture the essence of PG, which would be your top choice? Just curious...

You better be nervous ‘cause Herb usually beats that shit. Don’t have me falling asleep in the bathroom stall waiting for the night to be over!

On a personal level, I'd have to agree. This tune set a certain tone for the dancers to just let go & sweep that floor something fierce.
Why the magnificent dance is more spot on in capturing the essence of PG? For one, as I mentioned, just the title alone. We did have some real magnificent dances in that place as compared to the others clubs of that time, I sure did!! That whole PG experience had a magnificence about it few have been able to come near but never truly capture. The music of that tune captures Larry's ability to not be pigeon-holed into any one limited scope of musical taste or genre. Anything was fair game in that club. I mean, the clash was a punk rock group right?
but of course, this is all just my view and we all got something special outta that place, this is what's important.
Enjoy!

i agree. that was my second choice followed by journey to the light. i chose bra because it was the quintessential underground tune that was largely overlooked by most disco clubs of the time. it was the undergrounds sig track along with litm, city country city & what can you do for me.
