I had to take care of my dad's arrangements last year, a grueling task.
We all have to go sometime soon, it can be costly and wreck the foundation of a family.:shudder:

A Consumer Product
Funerals rank among the most expensive purchases many consumers will ever make. A traditional funeral, including a casket and vault, costs about $6,000, although "extras" like flowers, obituary notices, acknowledgment cards or limousines can add thousands of dollars to the bottom line. Many funerals run well over $10,000.
Yet even if you're the kind of person who might haggle with a dozen dealers to get the best price on a new car, you're likely to feel uncomfortable comparing prices or negotiating over the details and cost of a funeral, pre-need or at need. Compounding this discomfort is the fact that some people "overspend" on a funeral or burial because they think of it as a reflection of their feelings for the deceased.

When my mother passed back in 2000, my father went and purchased a plot of 8 spots. He told us if we weren't married when we pass away we could be placed there, we just have to make sure we have the money to break the ground (which at that time was like $700).
I also have a life insurance policy so I can be buried and leaves my son taken care of in my absence. I'm just need to work on my will now.

wow that's something else. your father is a very wise man.. and good to see you are planning accordingly - last thing you need is to get stuck as 'power of attorney', sorting through and paying bills for some irresponsible fool while in grieving would not fun i presume.

and as important as i know this conversation is - i couldn't do it
i'm just not ready to have this talk and frankly, i'll never be ready (i'm actually kinda comfortable with my blatant denial - it's working for me)
