we have all seen tons of Karate flix but the bad@ss flix of all time is a hard one to call.
my favorite flix was: The Iron Maden
were the father was trying to get his skillz up to kill this old dude who killed his master. He practiced on an Iron maden. His wife knew Crane but he didnt want to learn Crane. Well old dude killed his @ss and the son tried kill old dude he just kept getting his @ss kicked around. Mom gives the son some crane lessons and he combined them to kill old dude this was one BAD@SS flix.
what was your favorite?

I have a list of really bad (not good) karate movies,
-Black Belt Jones-Pure comedy. Scatman Crothers as the grand master, WTF? The carwash scene was stupid. Gloria Hendry was hot.
-Game of Death-Those cut outs of Bruce Lee's face were comical. However one of the cable channels played the uncut scenes Bruce Lee recorded for the movie. Bruce Lee fans will love that.
-Any Chuck Norris karate movie. Chuck was & probably still is a great martial artist but I hate his movies.
-Men of the Dragon-Made for TV karate movie which was shitty. It was a poor man's Enter the Dragon
-David Carradine's Kung Fu-No Comment!
I have more but I gotta go to a meeting.

No one mentioned Game of Death, with Bruce Lee v. Kareem Abdul Jabbar???????
I remember when I was around 7 years old, I saw a flick called "The Deadly China Doll", at the old Loews Theater in Downtown Brookyn. Girl was kickin' mad butt. Peace.

We had "Kung Fu Theatre" on WLVI in the early 80s.
There was one film in particular I loved but can't remember the title.
There was a guy with white hair - a long braid. He used to whip people with his braid.
Anyone know this movie?

Man, I would really appreciate it if someone knew the name of this kung fu gem! hail.gif Yo Serge! Great to hear from you, man!
This film went by many names, but the easiest title you'll find it here in the states is "Crippled Avengers."
There was another one called "Fearless Fighters" where this guy lost both his arms and legs and got them replaced with fake ones that did real cool kung-fu tricks.
As for classic films, my favorite kung fu film is "Master of the Flying Guillotine."
Close second is "Broken Oath" with Angela Mao.
And regarding "Karate Flicks" if we're being picky, then it goes to Sonny Chiba's "The Streetfighter."
If we have to mention modern films, it's a toss up between Iron Monkey (Donnie Yen, fight scenes by Yuen Woo Ping {The Matrix}), The Storm Riders and Fist of Legend (Jet Li).
All time greatest, beyond all others is The Chinese Connection.
Needless to say, you all have jumped into one of my favorite topics of discussion....

Five Deadly Venoms is the sh%*&t!!!!
They became known as the Poison Clan/Venom Brothers after that flick and made some of the previously mentioned flicks such as The Kid with the Golden Arm and The Crippled Avengers. A couple of those cats studied in the Peking Opera---the same place Jackie Chan studied. The opera was/is known for their serious training and acrobatics. These two particular clan members often times were pitted against each other toward then end of their flicks since they had the ability/training to memorize longer fight sequences and choreographed moves than the other actors. I've obvioulsy paid a visit to the fan websites!!!!!

Back in the very early 80's, I saw a flick called "The Mad, Mad Monkey of Kung Fu"... Yes, the much overused "revenge theme" ran through this film as well. But, the story was intriguing and the fight scenes were AWESOME! Storyline: Evil master is envious of another guy's skills. Evil master frames the dude for a bogus crime. As punishment, evil master takes the guy's sister as his concubine, then "cripples" him by having his hands beaten with bamboo rods. After his hands are beaten, he is an easy target, as he can no longer defend himself. So, he is beaten up and ridiculed. He exiles himself up in the mountains. He eventually acquires a protege/student. The student hates evil master as well and plots revenge for his master as he learns his art. The student challenges evil master twice and gets dat azz whupped both times. Goes back up to his master in the mountains to learn more. Finally he comes down and is kicking major ass until a net is dropped over his head. At that moment, his master shows up, gets him out of the net and they proceed to break foot off in everyone's azz!!
Classic line: "Master, why didn't you come sooner?" Master's reply: "If I'd come any sooner, we'd have both been caught in that net!" TOO COOL!! http://deephousepage.com/smilies/coolgleamA.gif

Some of the best fighting scenes (one on one) all in one movie (Woo Ping at his best) Jet Li's "Fist of Legend" How about "The Legend of Fong Sai Yuk" with Jet Li. I first saw it at the Art Institute of Chicago and later bought it on VHS. I liked part 1 better than part 2. It's on dubbed DVD as "The Legend" but being the purist that I am I prefer the subtitled version even though it's on crappy VHS.

C'mon guys no late night would be complete without :
Warriors Two
Fist of the white Lotus
The Victim or Magnificent Buthcer
Also Beardy did some classics on his own Demon Strikes is cool as well as the all time classic .
The Legend of a Fighter , I'm gonna have to go upstairs and dust a few off .
We actually put on some film nights in London around the late 90's called "shaolin" - for £5 you got a double bill of films projected onto a wall - Photographer's studio ! and in between we would put up new/old school video games to play and you could buy a beer a munch and smoke a little somethin as well .
Bring back the late night even though it would be very difficult as heads can just stay in and watch dvd's now .
Peace Alex . :D

what was your favorite? The movie that youre talking about is called EXECUTIONERS OF DEATH.
It's basically the same story that's told at the beginning of FISTS OF THE WHITE LOTUS except that in the beginning of FOTWL it's two separate characters (one trained in tiger fist and the other trained in crane fist) that kill priest Pai Mei by combining their style.
There are similarieties between EOD and FOTWL in other ways as well. The "mother" who trains Hui wei chen in FOTWL is actually the wife of his dead partner. She trains him in a "soft" style reminiscent of Tai Chi as opposed to the mother in EOD who trains him in the crane fist.
If you watch a lot of the shaw bros period films fo that ime you'll see that a lot of the characters have the same or similar names and thatthe tales are revised history or folk tales.
Most notably is that FIVE MASTERS OF DEATH starring David CHiang and Ti Lung picks up right after DEATH CHAMBER aka SHAOLIN TEMPLE ends. FIVE MASTERS OF DEATH came out 1st in 1975 but DEATH CHAMBER was done as prequel in 1977 with the dual intent at introducing the Venoms crew, Cheing Sheng, Lo Mang and Ko Chui.
I'll shut up now as I've rambled on for longer than I would have liked. My geek fu knows no bounds...
There are Samurai movies, and then there is ...SHOGUN ASSASSIN
The movie is sick.
The little kid narrating of course is what sets it above the rest, but its just ruthless.
I recommend it for all~~~~~~~
As for kung fu flix, I watched them a ton as a kid but cant remember any of the names. my favorite was about these two brothers who were bassically training in this school with some others peeps for most of the movie, all leading up to this huge battle at the end between them and like 8 different types of ninjas. They had these water ninjas who came out of the (water), then they had these tree ninjas coming from tree trunks, then they had like dirt ninjas and some other. They also had these ninjas in a cave who had these rotating hats that would like blind you for a sec and then they would throw them at you or whatever. It was the sickest fight scene!

Lo Mang has only played a good guy in only 1 or 2 of the venoms films so you pretty much knew that the last fight in a lot of those movies were going to come down Kuo Chui, Chiang Sheng and Lu Feng.
Kuo Chui is still around doing movies, he did the fight cheorography for BROTHERHOOD OF THE WOLF and he was the stunt coordinator for HARD BOILED. HE's actually IN HARD BOILED as a character called MAD DOG. He also has a cameo in the james bond movie TOMORROW NEVER DIES. He doesnt go by the name Ko Chui anymore though, he goes by Phillip Kwok.

Hello to DHP
I glad to see there is a love for Martial Arts movies on the DHP. But, please don’t call these movies Karate movies unless you are talking about Japan movies like the Great Sonny Chiba street Fighter series. It seems that they are some Shaw Brother’s lovers out there. I just wanted to let you know that the loved Shaw Brother’s movies are finally be digitally remastered for DVD. The first DVD’s was released in December of 2002 by a company called CELESTIAL PICTURES. http://www.celestialpictures.com.hk/home.html
These Dvd’s are region 3 in original language, Widescreen and subtitled in English. Miramax will distribute 50 Shaw films in English in the US( this sucks because Miramax is known for cutting parts from Asian movies and redubbing movies Like the jet li movies like defender.) CELESTIAL PICTURES will also start a worldwide classic Martial art channel on cable next year. Celestial is also showing these Shaw Classics in theater around the world. They were in NYC last week. http://filmlinc.com/wrt/programs/7-2003/martialarts.htm

Danger Has Two Faces 8/14/03-Lueng Kar Yan modern action film.
Return To The 36TH Chamber 8/14/03- The often-disliked comedic sequel to “The 36th Chamber of Shaolin,” which is in fact not a sequel at all. If you go into this knowing that, you’ll like it better.

Whose Baby Is In The Classroom?(Musical) 8/14/03
Spiritual Boxer 8/14/03- The seminal kung fu comedy, made quite a while before the efforts of Sammo Hung and Jackie Chan. Crazy Sex (Exsplotation) 8/28/03
Police Force 8/28/03-Cops and robbers film directed by Chang Cheh, most famous for being Alexander Fu Sheng’s debut.

36 Secrets Of Courtship(Explotation) 8/28/03
Soul Of The Sword 8/28/03-One of the rarest of Ti Lung’s swordplay epics and considered by many to be one of his better films as an actor.
Heroes Shed No Tears 8/28/03-Not the John Woo film, but a wuxia film starring Alexander Fu Sheng and directed by…yep, you guessed it, Chor Yuen!
The Spiritual Boxer Part 2 8/28/03-A “sequel” to the famous directorial debut of Liu Kar Leung made years earlier. While not as good as that film, again Liu innovates by showing hopping vampires in a comedy setting years before they became famous in “Mr. Vampire.”
Shaolin Handlock 8/28/03-One of the very few kung fu films starring David Chiang on his own while he was at Shaw Brothers. This is a decent “modern” kung fu film with a convoluted twist.
The Criminals 9/11/03-The start of one of the most famous crime film series in HK history. Cited as being very daring for its time and also consisting of current news events forming the basis of the movies.

The Five Venoms 11/6/03 –C’mon, it’s the Venoms!!
Carry On Con Men(Comedy) 11/6/03
Sexy Girls Of Denmark 11/6/03-One in a long line of exploitation films done by the Shaw Brothers. Maybe most famous because NONE of the girls in the film are from Denmark!

QUOTE]damn! I never knew this. So its like bits and pieces from all the 6 parts thrown together or???
I wonder how hard these are to find.
What makes the series better than the movie?
The movie is pretty damn sick though.
graemlins/thumbsup.gif [/QB]
Theyre not hard to find at all. I make it my buisness NOT to buy from bootleggers, so I dont know how easy they are to find on the street. But you should be able to find these online or at TOWER VIDEO.
I know they've been available on VHS for the past few years or so but only the 1st two movies are available on DVD so far.
As to what makes the series better than the movies? Let me put it this way if you dont care about details like plot, story and the actual history of the Tokugawa period then stick with SHOGUN ASSASSIN, which is just basically a badly dubbed compilation of all of the fights from the 1st three movies of the series. Also if you don't like subtitles (which most people dont) stick with SHOGUN ASSASSIN.
In short, SHOGUN ASSASSIN is shlock.
The LONE WOLF AND CUB movies are actual films.
There's nothing wrong with liking shlock but the LONE WOLF AND CUB movies are actually good.

Man, I would really appreciate it if someone knew the name of this kung fu gem! hail.gif This film went by many names, but the easiest title you'll find it here in the states is "Crippled Avengers."
</font>
Crippled Avenger? Gonna have to check it. ty KragShot!
OH crippled avengers? have it! those are the same guys from 5 deadly venoms, no? gonna check now to see.
**same movie** crippled avengers = 5 deadly venoms </font>
Yeah I saw this about 2 years ago. Simply amazing!!!!!!!!
Yo, does anyone remember a movie that contained a scene towards the end after a bloody battle, of a guy running away from a warrior. THe warrior looks to the ground and kicks this knife about 500 yards into the guys back. SICK!!! Anyone see that one?
Peace
Another flick I dug is Kung Fu Cult Master with Jet Li. the plot is mayhem but its got some funny sequences and overall an enjoyable ride.
Bride with white hair was decent.
There is a dope fight scene at the end of Dragon Inn with maggie Cheung and Bridget Lin. The cook wrecks shop on everyone.
Honestly though, of all the wirework swordsplay movies, crouching tiger took IMO the choreography up a nother notch. Plus the cinematography was really good.
Can anyone name the movie I was asking about earlier? with all the types of ninjas from the pond and the cave and the trees and what not? Its definitely an older one from the 80's I think.
Blade is a good one with the dude who loses his arm and finally gets revenge after like the most horrible setbacks...

Some of the best fighting scenes (one on one) all in one movie (Woo Ping at his best) Jet Li's "Fist of Legend" yo, this movie is CRAZY. I have never seen a more bloody limbs-being-chopped-off movie ever than this.... it definitely is a must see.

Anyone with an old gray haired man who is either drunk or blind and can kick some azz.
He has to be killed though and avenged by a younger disciple who trains in the forest for at least 7 years.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, the two guys that youre talking about are Ko Chui and Lu Feng.
Great knowledge!!!!
