After 6th Sense and Signs, Night has unleashed one dud after another. The latest seems to to have a lot of promise but reports are saying the same thing which has been all to common in his recent projects:good ideas that go nowhere from a narrative point of view.IMO he is a charismatic and gifted film maker but just can't write a lick i.e The Village

Although I haven't seen The Happening yet (going to see it today) but I disagree that his movies other than 6th Sense and Signs were duds. Unbreakable IMO was his best movie and I have liked them all.

Unbreakable IMO was his best movie and I have liked them all. They are duds from a writers point of view. His stories have a good start but typically crash and burn.I am a Night fan but he is going to let other people write his films if he wants to stick around!Agreed Unbreakable wasn't half bad!

I don't think the writing was bad or the stories crashed and burned. BTW I saw The Happening this afternoon and liked it a lot. He did a great job of building the suspense. There was no plot twist ending like in his other films. And the message of the film IMO is very relevant.

I am a fan. The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs are his best films IMO... I especially loved Unbreakable. This was a superhero for adults without all the CGI. I would love to see a sequel. I agree that his films after Signs needed to be rewritten maybe one or two more times before the final draft. I am looking forward to seeing this new film. If this film does not do well at the box office, you will see him directing films written by other screenwriters or he will adapt a book into film. Spike Lee (Clockers / Inside Man) and Quentin Tarantino (Jackie Brown / Sin City) are other directors that come to mind that eventually decided to adapt a book into film.

Rodriguez directed Sin City.

There is a segment that is directed by QT as well as Frank Miller. The Directors Guild refused to give a "credit" to QT and FM. This was the reason Robert Rodriguez dropped out of the Directors Guild. The guild has stuck to a one director per film policy since 1978, to keep producers and stars from demanding "gift credits." Exceptions are made under special circumstances: The guild recognizes "bona fide directing teams," like the Coen brothers, the Farrelly brothers, the Hughes brothers and the Wachowski brothers; and the policy can be waived for directors on films with multiple languages or stories (FOUR ROOMS for example). Rodriguez was unable to get a waiver for Frank Miller and Quentin Tarantino, so he quit the guild. Sin City was completed with all three because the production companies, TroubleMaker (RR's production company) and Dimension are not apart of the Directors Guild therefore they don't have to abide by the Director Guild rules. They were only abiding by them at first because Robert Rodriguez was a member and if you are a member you have to follow these rules no matter what film or production company you are directing a movie for if I am correct.

I'm A huge fan of his work. I took the wife on Friday. With the exception of the 6th sense, which was pure genius, his movies seem to share a common theme. Amazing concepts that become creative stories that never quite pan out as great movies.

"The Happening" was exactly that; amazing concept, interesting story, Grade C film.

This movie was pure shite. I can't believe I gave money to see this crap!

My buddy said it best:
Stupid global warming message wtapped up in a crappy movie.

Outright Horrible, with a capital H.

He should just stick to directing movies, and not writing them.

What a piece of shit! DO NOT GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!!

I hate that I spent my money on this crap! All of his movies (with the exception of 6th Sense) blew chunks. Why? Seems he is really, really good at building you up, but just when you think something exciting is about to occur it tuns into some non-sensical, out-of-this-world, fairytale bullsh_t.

I don't want to give much away on this one for those who dare venture out to see this tripe, but Michael Terzian said it best - "Stupid global warming message wrapped up in a crappy movie."

Should have seen HULK instead.

LOL, you're crazy hahahaha. But that movie sucked though and you know it.I disagree. I thought it was good, not great. He did a very good job of building the suspense and found creative ways for people to kill themselves. The ending left something to be desired but it was adequate. Overall 3 stars IMO.

:rofl5: It was NOT an anomaly. The plants figured out how to take us out. Since earthquakes and tsunamis couldn't do the trick, the plants said "Yo, yo we got this". :biglaugha:

This was absolutely horrible... Movies (action & thriller) should never be made where the antagonist does not speak or can not be seen. The Happening has both of these things going against it... The scene in the beginning of the movie where the construction workers begin falling from the sky, I have to admit was pretty good. This could have been a made for TV movie. Very anti-climatic.

I did think it would be interesting with the people falling from the sky but it was downhill after that. IT SUCKED.

It started going downhill for me after they hinted at the fact that it was the _____ that were doing it. I was like 'God, please don't let them be the antagonists in this film.' Once it was confirmed it was them I was ready to get out of my seat and leave, but I was there with someone else. Seriously, a 12 year old could come up with a better storyline. I am still upset at my friend for dragging me to see this.

BTW - go rent this instead:

Now at your local Blockbuster on DVD. THIS is what I thought 'The Happening' was going to be like. Saw this over the weekend. Excellent flick!
