I never liked that either. Now on a plugger they might say DJ So and So, but I never refer to myself as DJ So and So.

Tried to explain this to a "DJ," friend of mine and they didn't get. I've emailed this thread to them and know maybe they'll get it.
C.L.E.O you are so on point. I used that logic as well but they just didn't get it. It was kinda fustrating. Oh well

Is Dj Camacho shit? No. Is Dj Disciple shit? No. Names like Tony Humphries or Larry Levan........they used to put 'DJ' in front of back in the day. But you would be right in sayin a lot of shit Cheesy Djs (especially in the U.K) put DJ in front of their name. But if the DJ is a house DJ........ 99.9% of times they arent shit. DJ Cheez, DJ Pierre........... graemlins/acclaim.gif
Here's my question, what about it bothers people? I mean doctors put Dr. in front of their names 'cause they're doctors. Doesn't mean their whole life is medicine. I could see if people were taking issue with people they meet that introduce themselves as Dj so and so.
You: Hi, I'm Tony
Them: Hi I'm Dj Kenny
Huh? I didn't ask all that.

I never used the DJ part until they started calling me Skillz. Been using it for a longggg time now. But, I don't introduce myself with it. I don't know anyone that would say Hi I'm DJ _______. Maybe some cats take it too serious.

Well I have read good points on both sides. Alot of times I just say "John" or "JM3" when people ask who I AM.....I used DJ JM3 because I was tired of the "First Name" "Nickname" "Last Name" thing-ie. Farley "Jackmaster" Funk, Kenny "Jammin" Jason, etc to stand out in the flood of DJs at the time......At the time, I thought the different name would get me noticed. I WAS WRONG!!!! Its the skills that matter.......
Its really just a marketing thing.....to be identified.....Some people say their DJ name because of promotion....
You have good and bad DJs in all genres. It should not matter if the DJ has DJ in front of his name...All that should matter is does he have the music and the skills to move the crowd.....
Everything else is B.S........

well, I tend to agree, however - if a flyer says "music by Joe Schmo", will people understand that Joe will be spinning music rather than actually playing an instrument or singing? IMHO it should only be used to clarify the individual's role or art form. You would say "Vocalist Barbara Schmo" or "Percussionsist Larry Schmo" so why not "DJ Joe Schmo" if the name isn't enough to invoke the assumption that it's a DJ?

I agree with JMNYC, sometimes people just don't know what the hell people are doing so sometimes you have to put "DJ" in front of someone's name.
What i'm really tired of is cats putting "Lil" and 'Big" in front of their names. Also those "Parts" and "Agents this and that" What the hell is up with those guys.
Also, what's up with people putting "Hernandez" after their name??? Like Sergio Hernandez and Sean Hernandez?!?!? Who the F*uck are those guys!?!?!?
(Just Kidding fellaz) biggrinangel.gif :D
I present myself as Alex. Some people then ask "yeah but what's your dj name?". graemlins/rofl.gif
My real name always brings its load of questions and interrogations and it gets far too complicated, had to find something.

If you applied this everywhere it would be very confusing Dr Love would just be love, and so would love. Mr Mister would just be Mister, and when you shout OY MISTER! every f****r would turn around.
DJ is a distinguishing mark, and so is Mr....**** me that means Hey Mr Dj will just be hey! and there goes a song right down the drain.
