Alright, Y'all brought up karate flicks. How bout some underrated 70s Black movies. And please keep it in the "underrated" category. Everyone knows Three The Hard Way and Car Wash.

1) Shaft: The Kidnapping. Very few people know this one. A daughter of a Connecticut millionaire gets abducted, and the kidnappers are white boys who talk black over the phone. They want Shaft to deliver the ransom money to them. Love when Shaft finds out who they are: "Alright, honkeys, the gig is up!".

2) Putney Swope. Classic. Putney is the only brotha on the board of directors of a major company. The CEO dies at the board meeting. They take a secret ballot for the new CEO, and all of them "throw away their votes" for Putney. graemlins/rofl.gif Directed by Robert Downey, Sr. (Hmmmm).

"Sugar Hill" aka "Zombies of Sugar Hill" (1974)
Its actually one of the best horrors flick of that era, check out the special effects. The woman who played George Jeffersons mother is a voodoo priestess, who helps Sugar get revenge on the guys who murdered her boyfriend. Theres plenty of pimped out swedish knits in this movie to keep you entertained. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

"Hit Man" MGM (1972)Bernie Casey, Pam Grier and Roger Mosley (The first remake of 1971 "Get Carter") one of my favorites.

-Putney Swope was interesting
-The Education of Sonny Carson
-Cotton comes to Harlem & Charleston Blue
-The Liberation of LB Jones starring Roscoe lee Browne, Lola Falana (she was so phuckin sexy) & Yaphet Kotto
-Black Caeser with fred Williamson-The soundtrack was better than the movie but I still love the Hammer.
-Truck Turner with Issac hayes-Pursuit of the pimpmobile baby!
-The Mack with Max Julian, Roger Mosley & Richard Pryor
-Wattstax concert
-Thomasine & Bushrod with Max Julien, Vonetta Mcgee (another fine ass sis)& Glynn Turman
-The Watermelon man-That shit was a riot
Shaft in Africa-I'll always love that movie
-Sweetbacks bad ass song
-Blacula 1 & 2. Actually if you watch part one you should not have to watch part 2.
So many more! I'll post more later.

What year did that come out? I've never heard of that one. I think it was 74. Love it when Shaft's car breaks down, he gets to a pay phone to call the kidnapers and tell them what happened:

Kidnappers (talkin Black): Ya late (gettin' to the phone), my brother.

Shaft: My cream broke!!

Kidnappers: Your what???

Shaft: My car (now he knows who they're white)

Kidnappers (giving further instructions): Don't be late next time!

Shaft gets to the spot on time: Alright, honkeys, the gig is up!!!!

You guys should be ashamed of yourselves! How can y'all forget the main man himself - Dolemite.

Also, how can you guys forget about Snoop's mentor - The Mack.

Hell Up in Harlem was another classic '70s flick too. graemlins/cool_shades.gif

I usually do not listen to the comentary by the actors & the directors of a film. But if you wanna know the real deal of "The Mack" you have to check this section out on DVD. I found new respect for this film becuase of it.

My vote for worst blxplotation film goes to "The Monkey Hustle". This movie was so bad it was good. They must have made this in one day... graemlins/rofl.gif

Three the Hard Way was cool teanming up Fred Williamson , Jim Brown and Jim Kelly . Some great acting from the baddie white guy mmm . Who had this poison gas or liquid that could kill off all the none whites in the world - unbeliveable . And Fred and the two Jim's save the day .
There was also a tough Jim Brown film called The Slams or something like that . That was a dope movie .
Alot of great films in this genre .

Peace Alex :D .

Shaft: The Kidnapping" was an episode from the MGM "Shaft" (TV series)1973-74 season on CBS. It was a painfully watered down version of the three Shaft films.

"Shaft" (1971)
"Shaft's Big Score" (1972)
"Shaft in Africa" (1973)
Shaft TV series (73-74) We called it back in the day.....Shaft goes to CBS - "Shafted"

Now, "Putney Swope" IS A CLASSIC! This film is OVER THE TOP!
The Late Arnold Johnson stars as Putney Swope
and a great performance by Antonio Fargas

Two movies that i would rate as being underrated are, 'Across 110thst', With Anthoney Quinn(Rip)and i think Yapat Kotto, Also 'Trouble man', With Robert Hooks, If i remember correctly Marvin Gaye produced the soundtrack to Trouble man, Another movie is Cleopatra Jones with Tamara Dobson, Say Sam the man Burns, You mentioned the young lady Tracy Reed(From Car Wash fame), Have you seen her lately in anything TV series/Movies(Shit it don't matter)my man, Also, Even though this movie would not qualify for being called underrated Blaxploitation(Or maybe it would), But 'Which way is up', Is crazy funny, I think that came out in 1977 with Richard Pryor.

Here's a few more

Five on the Black Hand Side -still relevant and underated
Watermelon Man - funny then, funny now
Education of Sonny Carson - classic
Truck Turner

Although I wouldn't call it blaxploitation but the film Sapphire is a must see. I haven't seen it since the late eighties (and its not in circulation). It came out in 1959 about a young woman who was found murdered. Her inner circle never knew she was black because she passed for white most of her adult life. Great murder mystery shot in England

Say BHouse,Ennod23, Penitentiary is a very funny movie, My favorite scene in the movie is when 'Too Sweet'(Leon Issac Kennedy), And Half dead are fighting, And Leon Issac Kennedy is ruining(****ing him up hard)my man(Half dead), But
half Dead's man in the next cell thinks that half dead is raping Leon Issac Kennedy hard, And Half Dead's man say's, 'Wreck him Dead,'wreck him dead', I ain't never heard Dead make a noise like that', Leon Issac Kennedy went left(cold ****ed him up)on homes(Half Dead)hard, Also, Another funny movie is 'Body and Soul', With once again Leon Issac Kennedy, But the young ladies in this movie are Hall of fame material, Here's the roll call, Jayne Kennedy(Back then, You know the time),Ola Ray(Former Playmate of the year, I think in 1981, And still looks very good today),Ingrid Greer,Rosanne Keaton(Former Playmate of the year i think 1980, Also you will probably remember her from Bachelor Party in 1984 when she was one of the Ladies of the night(On the stroll), And showed up at Tom Hanks girlfriends house)to do some young ladies in, And Rosanne Keaton was in the 'White Shadow', TV show in 1979/80 as Coolidge's Girlfriend(A very heavy episode).

I Would assume you're referring to the 'Youngblood' movie since they are continuing to show the 'Sonny Carson' movie on cable right now.

It's available on Blockbuster.com I keep running into the Soundtrack in the old record bins.

There's a scene where the gang members are at a disco and 'Galaxy' by war is playing and a guy does a split on the dance floor.

It was released in 1984, years after the demise of the Black film boom (1971 to 77)

"Brother from Another Planet" was directed by John Sayles and starred Joe Morton.

a fine film indeed.
