Fela's youngest son will be at House of Blues on Monday - I saw him last year in Millenium Park and I have to say, I've never partied so hard at a concert before! Ever!
H.O.B. is gonna be bananas!!!!! Close, tight, hot, rhythmic and throbbing . . . I can hardly wait!!!!

This is turning out to be the best summer ever!!!

AND MORE!!!!!
Seun Kuti takes you THERE!!!!!!!!!
today, when I'm able to make a sound at all, I sound as if I've been gargling razors - screaming my head off and clapping!
but I feel so alive! there is nothing like being swept away
submitting, letting go and allowing music to wash over you
last night was sooooo good - I partied so hard! I wore the flattest of flat shoes (so you know it was on!)
been to plenty of concerts and live performances
walked away from plenty feeling like 'eh, it was good' - but not great - often nothing like the recording that I've grown so fond of
so far, afrobeat and jazz are the only two genres that I've experienced live where the sound integrity that you've grown to love is still present and THRIVING!
I LIVE For AFROBEAT!!!!!
next to last years performance in the park, this was the best live show I've ever experienced! (More than half of Egypt 80 are original members!!! What do you expect!!!)
Seun is so much like his father, it's uncanny . . .
I don't think there will ever be an occasion where Seun Kuti will perform in Chicago and I'm not there
if you missed it, shame on ya . . .

PE - you are right that shit was off the meter! Seun danced his ass off. He looks so much like Femi. I'm still singing "... na your fault be that" My husband knows them from back home so I got a lil education from the guys.

From Seun's MySpace:
His first American tour, last summer, was certainly on everybody’s lips. The Egypt 80 musicians only got their visas after Barack Obama intervened and their concert in Chicago practically became a riot as hundreds of spectators leapt onto the stage, much to the distaste of the security services. The festival organiser declared it the best concert of his life! All you have to do now is listen to the album and understand why all other dance music seems so desperately mechanical, static and dull when compared to the incredible Afrobeat of Seun Kuti and Fela’s Egypt 80.

I knew about the FREE joint last summer, I knew about the HOB concert Monday. My dumb-Ass picked up shifts both times, and missed both appearances.
So - while I knew the music, and know both men. I have yet to see a live appaerance.
