a friend hooked me up with a copy of the first issue of GrandSlam magazine which has the full 30+ page article on "the edited history of cut'n paste" (initially printed over 3 different issues of the now defunct 'big daddy' magazine)
I noticed at the end of the article that the DHP edit competition held a little while back was getting props/references, along with a couple of the guys from japan that entered the comp..

dustygroove has copies of the magazine in case anyone is interested.. well worth the read!

the mag is worth buying just for the re-edit/cutup article - its huge.
info and interviews with the latin rascals, coldcut, double dee and steinski, omar santana, dj duke, danny krivit, walter gibbons, etc.. also a good list of essential records to look out for.
my only bones with the article is that there is no real info/talk on the disco re-editing that was happening in chicago.. edits were one of the reasons 'house' even came into existance in the first place!

Issue Two is out soon, with a big Public Enemy interview.... however in the third one (I think) theres gonna be a hefty disco/ hip-hop crossover article written by the same guy who did the re-edits article which is what I'm REALLY looking forward to....
what do you guys think to the mag compared to Big Daddy?
