Thoughts N Prayers go out........
Popular female DJ K-Swift died this morning (July 21) in a swimming pool accident in her hometown of Baltimore, Maryland AllHipHop.com has learned.
K-Swift, born Khia Edgerton, was just 28-years-old, at the time of her death, although she started DJ’ing at the age of 11, due to the influence of other pioneering DJ’s like Cocoa Channel and Jazzy Joyce.
K-Swift broke ground on Baltimore’s Radio One station 92Q Jams, where she rose to Female Mix Show Coordinator and was the only female in the country to hold the title.
She was also a member of the Violator-All Star DJ Coalition, as well as a member of the all female squad the Murda Mami’s.
"I'm at a loss for words right now,” Murda Mami founder 1st Lady El told AllHipHop.com. “K-Swift was not only one of my Murda Mami sisters, she was a great friend. She knocked down doors for women in this industry, so humble and hard working. Legendary in the club music scene and the number one DJ in Baltimore. She will be missed."
In addition to being the only female record pool director in Baltimore (Direct Drive Record Pool), K-Swift also owned Club Queen Entertainment, a graphics management and production company.
Details on her death will be released shortly.

RIP.... she definitely rocked it through the years.
She was one of the first female hip-hop/bmore club jocks I ever heard where if you didn't KNOW, you couldn't tell by her skills or style that she was a female. She was definitely raw. We spent many many a night rolling up BW Parkway listening to them on the way to the club.
"how you wanna carry it?"

dang. i could pick up 92q where i live (i think most of dc picked up the station), and i used to check her out every once in a while when i was in the mood to listen to something different. wasn't that crazy about the music she played, but she rocked it nonetheless.
rest in peace.
had the chance to check her out a few times. one of the pioneers of that b-more sound. RIP.

I was at Artscape, too...and was eating some catfish nuggets & french fries...bobbing my head...AMAZED at how the young folk were partying on the stage. Yes, I was shakin' my stankin' too. She rocked the stage HARD...had an seasoned woman (probably been to Odell's/Fantasies a time or two) jamming with her young daughter.
My coworker just asked me what is Bmore Club 'cause she knew of K's name...but not so much the music.
Would someone please send me Tech's website so that I can pass it along to her?
Y'all remember the special they did on the Bmore Club scene that played on MTV not quite a year ago?

I had the pleasure of meeting and working with K-Swift in my 92Q days - a very nice and down-to-earth lady. May she rest in peace.

Tragic. I did not know her personally, but it sounds like she meant the world to a lot of folks -- the Unruly Records fam, 92Q fam, and really the entire city of Baltimore (and club music fans every where). I always dug listening to her INSANE bmore club sets on 92Q on the way to gigs. Always got me hype and really played the best club sets I ever heard. Cosmo Baker put it well on another board when he said this about hearing her kill it on the air:
"listening to the show would without fail make me question my right and/or ability to play club - it was THAT GOOD."
I didn't witness either set, but before I heard the news she had passed, I heard about her DESTROYING the Unruly Records party @ the Paradox on Friday (Diplo was apparently shook to go on after her) and then again at Artscape on Saturday. She went out on top.
Here are some pics:

*Witnesses told police there were several people in the pool when Edgerton jumped in, but none of the swimmers were alarmed when she didn't immediately resurface.
*There were also lifeguards present.
*After time had passed and she still didn't surface, they got alarmed and jumped in.
*They were able to pull her out to the side of the pool. Medics were called but no one at the party attempted CPR while they were waiting.
this is shocking to say the least. this looks like another senseless tragedy that probably could have been avoided. wtf is up with people today? last week it was the lady in the hospital, the week b4 that the man ran down by a car. seriously this really messed up my day yesterday. i swear to god some people are just so frikkin clueless.
i heard that no one performed cpr , that is unreal

Love those pictures of Swift...those young ladies were 'getting it'...wish I had that level of energy.
I listened to 92Q on my way in...and hearing the pain in the voices just made me choke up a bit. *clearing my chi* The parents really got next to me 'cause they, too, were so grateful for the impact she made on their children.

It seems odd to me that there were lifeguards at a private home. If there were and they did not perform CPR, that is ridiculous. If there were not lifeguards, perhaps no one there knew CPR? Either way, it is a real tragedy.

Thanks, Blaq. I just sent it to her (my coworker) and warned her NOT to open at work. (We got this NO MUSIC policy.) She's gonna be at home 'shaking off' I bet.
*singing* I'm gonna dance my pain away (I got problems)...
Sounds like she broke her neck when she dove in the pool :jpshakehead:
