Number Portability
Beginning on November 24, 2003, many wireless subscribers will be able to keep their existing mobile telephone number when they switch wireless service providers. This ability, known as telephone number portability or local number portability (LNP), is being implemented by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) under the direction of Congress.
The goal of LNP is to promote competition and innovation in the marketplace and to offer consumers more choice in phone products and services, including the ability to retain your phone number without a loss in quality of service if you decide to change carriers.

As of right now I don't plan on changing carriers but that is a big plus when I decide to make that change since I have a telephone number that is personalized.

I'm trying to switch, but AT&T wants to hit me with early termination fees. I see no point in continuing with them when my phone "roams" inside my own house!! They hit me up for roaming fees because my phone switched "off-network" inside my own house. I got them to reverse the charges, but they had no explanation as to why the AT&T connection was so crappy from inside my home, yet T-Mobile and Cingular are loud and clear. They don't understand why I'm pissed either! I'm not letting this one go....JMJ graemlins/cussing.gif

Plan on switching but not sure if I'll do it right away. AT&T's reception is aweful, why do I have to go stand near a window in my own house? Also their selection of phones is terrible. Leaning towards Verzion.

There's NO roaming fees within the AT&T network, and they tried to charge me when THEIR connection sucked ass and switched to another network. It's not like I asked for a different network......JMJ graemlins/jpshakehead.gif
