One of the joints from X Clan's first album just popped in my head. I let my brother borrow this tape and it got stolen out of his car a little over 10 years ago.

Anyways, one of the cuts had this crazy ass bassline accompanied by a fender rhodes riff. I believe it was on side B of the cassette.

This is the track listing from Cdnow.com but they only have audio clips for the first 5 cuts.

Does anyone know which song I'm talking about?

1. Funkin' Lesson Listen Listen
2. Grand Verbalizer, What Time Is It? Listen Listen
3. Tribal Jam Listen Listen
4. Day of Outrage, Operation Snatchback Listen Listen
5. Verbal Milk Listen Listen
6. Earth Bound
7. Shaft's Big Score
8. Raise the Flag
9. Heed the Word of the Brother
10. Verbs of Power
11. In the Ways of the Scales

Peace

I don't know which one, but this Tape is a classic. I will have to see if my roommate has this. He has a suitcase filled with old hip-hop cassetes from 88-94.

It sounds like track 8.

You might be thinking of "Raise The Flag", which sampled Roy Ayer's "Red Black & Green"

"Verbal Milk" had a dope bassline but I don't remember any Fender Rhodes. It's been a minute. If you can remember any lyrics that might help.

"Grand Verbalizer..." sampled AWB's "School Crush" (or was that just the remix?)

There was a couple Last Poets samples as well.

I had a sample of some vocalists singing "Red Black and Green, it can make your body move if you know what I mean" or something similar to that.

Peace

My coworker was listening to this album at work last week... I always dug them but never bought the album. Loved the way they rocked Grover's Mr. Magic.

There is a Roy Ayers song called Red, Black & Green. But there is a Brian Jackson/Gil Scott Heron one as well, so not too sure which one it is without hearing it again.

I used to know a kid who was down with them. He's one of the faces on that album cover. As much as I like some of their music, their politics were a little skewed. After hanging around them for a minute, my man started getting all funny about white people. He has long since changed his ways, mind you. I did sound for them at some bullshit gig at my college when their first record dropped. They got all mad at me cuz their booty cassette tape wouldn't play and they were standing around on stage in total silence like "yo man, play the ****in tape!". Vanglorious! ZOOOOOM!

There was an offshoot group in the mid/late 90's called Dark Sun Riders. Highly slept on album that had some nice cuts on it.
