I'm convinced that even if you have a wall plastered with your degrees you are still a fuckin' moron if you don't know basic fuckin' computer skills. READ THE USER GUIDE if you need assistance or you are having problems. That's what user guides were created for.

Rant over.

User Guide? User Guide? as in they would have to read it and then follow directions? Really Albert, you ask for too much.:rofl5:

yeah, i guess that is too much to ask for. why waste time reading a manual when you can have the IT department hold your hand and do it for you. I mean, besides being the electrician, plumber, vending machine fixer, microwave repair man, and facilities person, that is our job, right?

In my entire 13 year IT career, I've only worked at one Place(Arthur Andersen), where basic Computer training, was a mandatory requirement, upon hire. Everywhere else, it was not backed by management. Folks aren't gonna bother retaining IT skills, using guides, or hitting F1, cause they got you.

Be happy they're stupid. Once computers are smart enough your ass is out of a job.

They're probably too busy trying to outsource your job since so many people could do it.

Dude you come across as super bitter. Why? Because someone doesn't have the technical aptitude you have for PC's? Maybe you should thank your lucky stars, because if they did you would not have a job.

you're right. i've only worked at one company that tested users before they got hired and this was back in 2001. since then i haven't worked at any other company that required users to take a basic computer skills test in order to get the job. this really should change.

not bitter just frustrated. it's annoying when i'm trying to work on more serious issues and some schmuck needs us to drop everything because he can't print or get on the internet.

if you get in your car and it doesn't start do you just give up and say, "i'm done. let me call the mechanic." or do you actually try to troubleshoot shit yourself? c'mon, it's not hard to try doing some shit on your own.

what makes it worse is when they CC all of management because we're not on top of their shit asap because god knows they shouldn't have to print to another printer down the hall. i mean, this might cause them to run out of breath and probably suffer a heart attack and drop dead right there. we can't have that now, can we?

it's stupid when people ask me about shit that is development work or when they ask the developers about networking/systems shit. get your shit right. if i have a problem with my paycheck i'm not gonna go run to the accounting controller. people are just lazy and don't take the time to learn a little shit.

not really. when you're in IT you have to stay on top of the latest technology. it changes constantly and you gotta keep up. if you don't then that's when your ass is out of a job.

The worst are users that don't save their new documents, before they start typing. It's usually the same individuals that always call, to complain that they did hours of work, but because they didn't name the file- all is lost. You can't restore from tape, or shadow copy.

i get those calls too and you're right it's ALWAYS the same circle of people that call. funny how other people are okay i never hear from them, but there are certain ones that call me for ANYTHING. i'll get a call from someone telling me they have an error message on their computer - turns out to be a fuckin' java update or some shit like that. morons i tell you!!

I had a lawyer who was mad at me because his Brickbreaker game didn't work on his Blackberry. I told him my job is to make sure he gets his Outlook emails and is able to sync his calendar, contacts, and memo pad. He made me troubleshoot the game like I was an Atari repairman, lol.

are you fuggen kidding??? i'm not surprised, though. i would have told him what i tell everyone that comes up to me with that kind of bullshit - "is it affecting your work? if so, let me talk to your boss and my boss to see if it's okay to get this fixed for you." within minutes i'll get an email from that person saying, "it's okay. nevermind." yeah, that's what i thought.

of course and that's completely different. the owners at my company don't ask for things like that, and they allow us (IT) to do our jobs and make sure everyone follows policy including them, but if they ever wanted anything i would damn sure do it. they write my checks not anyone else.

I also work in IT and for the sake of "Job security" I probably shouldn't say this but think about the amount of money that a company could save on tech or other computing support if people didn't need their hands held by IT.

So easy a protic can do it (QUAD)

Nothing like starting a Friday morning with a call that somone deleted a directory, which interrupted my Sleazy Disco on Cyberjamz this morning. arrgghhhh
