He did some Wild Pitch and Acid cuts on Power Music and Sax Tracks in the mid 90s. There was one cut he did that was straight up sick around 1994 that had DJ Pierre type of Buildup and a sick bassline. I want to say that it was called Acid Rain but I'm not sure.

Anyone remember this cat?

Peace

Yup, I used to work at Power/Sex Tracks/Music 4 your Ears, etc.

Mark the 909 King was actually DJ Duke. He kept it a secret because of the way people tend to pigeon hole and may already have a bias against a certain producer. But I guess it doesn't matter that I let the cat out of the bag now since those days are over.

Sex Tracks had released some funky music. I had the best sex tracks sweatshirt ever...

Check for the Music 4 ya Ears label too, some great Mood II Swing on there...

When we started Power Distribution that was fun, but ultimately killed Power because no other distributer wanted to push Power records because our company was now a threat to them. Since we were a new distribution company we didn't have the client reach that the established companies did, and you can guess what ultimately happened to Power...

But I did have a great time distributing new music. That's when Dan Curtain's full length album came out on Peacefrog, I remember pushing that record with all my heart. Great Techno album. That guy had some sick chord changes. Do you have that stuff? I think I remember you saying you liked Titonton Duvante who I think used to work with him. Definately a similar sound.

Music 4 Ya Ears put out my favourite Mood II Swing record, "Move Me". Both mixes are ace but the deep, basic channelly one I have caned over the years. The distribution going under makes sense of that record being so rare - my double of that's going nowhere. Good call on Dan Curtin, those Peacefrog albums were superb. I dug out Art & Science a few months back thinking he'd dropped off around then, but not at all. Curtin was a fantastic producer back then, really forged his path. So Power did the US distribution for Peacefrog? They always seemed to get the best out of the US producers they got on board. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

What was the name of the cut on the same release as "Move me" that had that "Melting Pot" bassline and the spoken word similar to "Do it your way". Was it "Function"?

during that time this was the main style of music i was playing...the whole of power music and all its sublabels were a staple in my sets. same goes for a lot of the peacefrog stuff that was coming out at the time. donger, if you worked for power, we may have spoken on the phone several times in those years, i used to call up there regularly and sometimes buy directly over the phone.

I always thought that there were two mixes of "Move Me" on that record, that track with the "Melting Pot" bassline being one of them, no?

Anyone remember that sick mix of DJ Duke's "Turn it Up (Say Yeah)" that had the sample of the keyboard from Machine's "There but for the Grace of God go I" pitched down an octave? That cut was was sick!!!Peace

I do know that one of those "Move me" mixes did not have the spoken word throughout the song but I'm not sure what 12 that it was released.

DJ Duke - Throw Your Hands in The Air was a good ninties track - I had this on clear vinyl.

Groove, there were some great cuts out on Emotive around this time as well, Karen Pollack - You Can't Touch Me (original & murk remixes) and loads of fresh Pierre stuff.

Takes me back, lots of Emotive tunes, Sex Trax and Maxi and Roger S's secret weapons on Narcotic.

In fact, throw in Ashley Beedle's - Revolutions In Dub (Narcotic) 1995 while we are on it !!!

While we're on Emotive, who did that dark EP with the tracks 'Modulator', 'Hump in Your Back' and 'Physical(?) Insanity'?

I need to dig this one out again for the summer!

No worries, Ashley Beedle again, Roots Revolution EP, containing Pimpology and Jumpin (at the Facory Bar) as well.

Right, I'm digging, but should be looking for a Narcotic realease! smile.gif

Peace Yes, that has to be "Function". "Call Me" was also very nice. Great Ep for Music For Your Ears which has to be my favorite Duke-Label.

Peace,

Gerd

Mark also did CLub Track, track that Tony used to kill with the bass and cow bell. Not many heads had that one. It still has heads asking me yo "what was that joint with the cow bell".
