So.....Is it true for Chicago that there are only 300 strong.
Recently I had a conversation with a dj and his perception from talking with other djs is that there are only 300 people left in Chicago that want to hear that hard hittin disco music......He said haven't you noticed when you go to those parties that you see the same people at every party. HMMMMMMM

This conversation took place at Reynolds where I understand the place was packed with little space to move, beatin system and the music consisted of mendall classics top 40's or dirty thirties and mirror dance. (But foreal I was told they played mirror dance and the crowd went into a frenzy :) .)

So I guess my question is why do these parties stay packed?

Is this true....Are there only 300 left? (Figuratively speaking)

300 and falling...

As the onset of what has been dubbed "New music" has taken hold in the city, a number of the die-hard disco heads have converted over. It is not a smite to disco, just a progression in people's acceptance of the music. If the music is good, people will eventually begin to like it. I am positive that that is not the only reason the crowds have become reduced in size (aging population, less time, other commitments, etc), but this has been happening for soem tiime now. Assimilation is inevitable...

Yes, Mirror Dance is THE hot song right now for the people. You can play it anywhere in the city and get the same response. We as DJ's and other "house heads" may have been playing it or enjoying it for months now, but the masses are just getting into it. Let them have their fun with it, it's good to see a new song generate some excitement for the "old schoolers". I have heard it on the radio here in mixes now, and now the audience is requesting it.

You misunderstood my point see sensei's reply above.

I feel people when they get tired of straight disco sets. I love a little variety in the sets myself. You know some disco, some traxx, some GOOD new.

But here's my dilemma yes we have the shop and now lava lounge and yes stickam exposes that beautiful disco music to so many. But that's just it there is not that much exposure to the unknown or unfamiliar not even a mix up in some of the popular djs set to let the people know that there's other disco songs just as beatin and sometimes even more then the ones people are used to.

Yeah I get the "clear the floor syndrome" and the "I gotta make money so I have to play what the crowd wants syndrome" But see there-in lies the problem. If no one is exposing unfamiliar shit then no one will even know if they like it. (You don't have to change your whole set up .......well some djs need to!!!!!!) But shit to slip one or two in here and there what's the problem with that?
I really only know of one dj (spinnin at a regular weekly venue)that is even remotely challenging the musical minds of these so-called heads in these places exposing a song here and there but other than than it's the same MO.

But it seems that Sensei is right ...........I can tell by the number of responses I'm getting here. I guess different strokes for different folks.

I play all of it man...the classics sound good still and the new stuff sounds good hell i just love the music...there's obviously still a strong love for the disco based on the number of older traks that are remixed and reworked to add a newer sound to them...

even if it is played out(by some of our standards), id still rather see people dancing to this song than no new music at all(there wasa day this was happening).
