I*m really pissed off at myself. I*ve bought into the idea of house music out of doors. I*ve bought into someone orchestrating an outdoor event promising harmony, love, and unity through house music, but it*s all a load of bull. I recently went to a long-running outdoor event and was presented with propaganda. I*m to blame to believing that events like these are worthwhile. After traveling all the way from the mid-west to attend this Brooklyn event, I was annoyed at the constant plugs of a certain club, with certain DJs in the *in crowd* and the like.

When you realize that the promotional efforts are coming from folks who inevitably just want to play there, it angers me. If you want a regular gig there, then make it happen for yourself, but don*t sell me your bullshit love of house music, when all that you and your friends want to be are superstars. I took a look at the people on the stage. They all wanted to be seen, wanted to be noticed, and wanted everyone to know that they were in the *in crowd* because they were allowed to hang out on the stage. Give me a break people! Thank God one of their live performers tore the roof off of the place because otherwise I*d have to go postal on the organizers for making me believe in their bullshit love.

One of the other artists didn*t even have the music to her best known record to sing along to. We*re taught to believe that any live show is good in the house world, when all she did was preach to us about Jesus and being saved from a savage disease. That*s nice sweetie, but shut up. I want to forget about the ills of the world when I*m dancing. I don*t want to be reminded of it. I go to church on Sundays to hear good preaching. I don*t need more preaching from you or anyone else from that event. They all talk Jesus, love, and house music, but all just have an agenda anyway. I wish they would have just said *look at me, I*m great up on this stage* because at least that would be honest. It*s exhausting to figure all of this political crap out. There were those videotaping the event like it was CNN. I felt like telling them that nobody cares about it. They*ll be into it for a minute and then they*ll forget. They aren*t presenting anything that we haven*t seen before, so chances are that we*ll forget about your silly little event faster than ever before. I*m going back to the mid-west where ignorance is still bliss, but at least no one*s selling me bullshit love.

On the positive side though, at least someone is doing something, but I just wish that *something* wasn*t so wack!

First off, let me say that with SpeedGarage.Com formerly, and BounceFM.Com presently, my goals are primarily two: to document the scene and second, to provide a platform for discussion about the scene.

Second, let me just sound off on a few things, by the way this thread is heading, its implying that I’m Earle the Hater, which is false. Second, I have no beef personally or professionally with Lil Ray or the Clubhouse Jamboree. If you know me and you know my work, the photos speak for themselves, period. Third, as indicated on the footer of each and every page on BounceFM – (please scroll to the bottom), “The views represented by the authors do NOT necessarily represent the views of BounceFM.”

RETORT:
In the past people have challenged me on the following:
· not attending their event
· kissing the asses of top DJs
· not providing movie reviews
· not covering scenes in other parts of the country/world.
· Always providing flattering reviews of events

I take these jibes all in stride as being par for the course for being a journalist. As you know, the site is run by me, myself and I (with some wicked MySQl & PHP help from New Orlean’s own Javier Drada). I’m only one man, hold down a day job and there’s no way in hell I can attend every event in NYC As a result, there is no way I can address all of these items. Rather than get mad at these accusations, I challenge people to take action. If people can write and write well, I’ll publish their work. If people can photograph and photograph well, I’ll publish their photos.

In the criticism of providing movie reviews, Nice1Dave stepped up to the plate. (See his review on The Fighting Temptations). In the criticism of not covering the San Francisco scene, SF correspondent Michelle Torres stepped up to the plate to interview west coast DJ’s and producers (see her interview with SF’s Reuben Mancias). In the criticism of providing flattering reviews, Earle stepped up to the plate to provide her OPNION of the event having traveled here from outta town.

I ran the review as
a) she contributed it,
b) she actually attended the event,
c) she is a DJ and knows a bit about the scene so I accepted her viewpoint as valid.
It may not be the perspective everyone wants to hear, but valid nonetheless.

I’m not going to go into the anonymity thing cause as you all know, this scene is mad small. But I will say, that I’ve honored requests for anonymity in the past on the site to respect people’s wishes. For examples, see the WMC 2003 surveys:

Ray don't stress it. when i first read the diatribe, the writing style was strikingly familiar. after a quick search, it shows this is the same "journalist" who blasted Chaka at summerstage. the peculiar inference to a cross country sojourn in the Jamboree review invalidates the Chaka review where the point of "going straight home after the concert" draws attention to local habitation. why would she go straight home & not to her hotel? it doesn't make much sense to me. i could be wrong. here's the link to the Chaka review. judge for yourself.

my feeling on this? someone working from the inside to undermine a certain segment of the scene. a saboteur.

based on the photos from the event, it was very well attended. haven't been back to bounce but it seems there was only (1) expressed, negative opinion.

there are always going to be detractors now matter how successful the event. comes with the territory. get used to it if you aren't already. graemlins/respekt.gif

Unfortunately, I was unable to attend this year, you better believe I wanted to, and from all other accounts the jamboree was definitely worth attending and it's destined to keep growing. Ray - Congrats on your 10 years and I wish you many more. I know you love this scene more than anyone. Even though I never attended your event, I could tell your pour your heart into this every year. I know by experience that it's a real downer to receive even 1 negative input. It is very clear by the pictures that everyone was having a good time. Discount this input as every knows the truth.

It appears to me that the person who wrote the article was purposely trying to create some drama. This is just typical hype to draw attention to the writer and web site that published to work.
