Is This America?

-Millions Of Americans To Be Prohibited From Flying
-Armed Police Storm School in Drugs Raid
-MASSIVE SURVEILLANCE OF YOUR MOVEMENTS & FINANCES
-CONFISCATION OF YOUR CASH
-UNLIMITED DETENTION WITHOUT TRIAL

07.11.2003 [07:11]

Last February, the Transportation Security Agency announced that all U.S. citizens who fly would be assigned a green, yellow or red travel code under a new system known as CAAPS II - "Computer Assisted Passenger Screening."

A green code means you fly like normal. A yellow code means you would be subject to repeated searches and interrogation by police before you would be allowed to fly. A red code means you can't fly and may be arrested.

The system will eventually be expanded to every form of public transportation, including ships, trains and buses. It will probably also be expanded eventually to issuing driver's licenses and even opening bank accounts.

The criteria for determining your travel code is secret, and there is no provision for challenging it. So, if you're assigned a yellow or red travel code, and you are prohibited from visiting your own children or lose your job because you keep on missing business flights while police interrogate you, tough luck!

Now TSA has dropped another shocker: The number of U.S. citizens to be initially yellow- or red-coded is enormous! Up to 8% of all U.S. citizens are to be yellow-coded initially, and 2-3% red-coded. That's 10% of the entire U.S. adult population! TSA says they plan to implement this system nationwide within 12 months.

And CAAPS II is just one of many threats you now face to your liberty and privacy, in post 9-11 America, including:

MASSIVE SURVEILLANCE OF YOUR MOVEMENTS & FINANCES

Under Total Information Awareness, the Pentagon is now creating comprehensive, computerized dossiers on every man, woman and child in America. (Code names: "The Beast" and "the Matrix.") If anything suspicious turns up, expect a visit from the new security police.

CONFISCATION OF YOUR CASH

The USA Patriot Act creates the new crime of "bulk cash smuggling.' If you now leave or enter the U.S. without declaring that you have more than $10,000 in cash or currency instruments, you can be stripped of your money - without any proof you have committed any crime. You can also be sentenced to five years in prison.
Even carrying more than a few hundred dollars in cash in the U.S. can now result in your cash being seized by police as "drug money," under civil asset forfeiture laws.

Under the Patriot Act, your bank accounts can also now be seized if you have given even a single dollar to a Muslim charity or any organization the government classifies as "terrorist sympathizers," or if you have committed any of over 400 offenses - including shoplifting or drunk driving.

UNLIMITED DETENTION WITHOUT TRIAL

Under the USA Patriot Act (passed in October 2001), if you are accused of any activities which "violate federal or state law" and which "endanger human life" (participating in a demonstration where someone is injured?) you can now be classified as a "suspected terrorist" or "enemy combatant," and imprisoned indefinitely without trial.

At least 2,000 people have already been detained under this law, and hundreds are still imprisoned without charges -- including at least two dozen U.S. citizens.

Armed Police Storm School in Drugs Raid

By Mark Sage, PA News, in New York

Armed police stormed a high school and ordered children to the floor at gunpoint so they could conduct a drugs search, it emerged today,

Officers ran into the South Carolina school, screaming at pupils to lie face down, before rifling through their bags.

Students who did not do as they were told were handcuffed.

Parents were outraged at the raid, but principal George McCrackin said he would “utilise whatever forces that I deem necessary” to keep drugs out of the school.

Stratford High School in Goose Creek has 2,700 pupils but does not have a reputation for drugs or crime.

During the raid a sniffer dog found traces of substances in 12 bags, but no drugs were recovered.

Parent Latonia Simmons called the incident “senseless”.

“Now why did they have to take all that force?” she told CNN.

“They were innocent kids. They were just minding their own business, getting ready for class.”

But Mr McCrackin denied the raid was an over-reaction.

He said: “I’m sure it was an inconvenience to those individuals who were on that hallway. But I think there’s a valuable experience there.”

Police said CCTV footage inside the hall led them to believe there had been “drugs activity”.

A spokesman added that although some officers had drawn their weapons they were “not pointing at the faces or heads of the students”.

ironically, there's a big ballyhoo over bringing democracy to the middle east when we're losing that at home. :(

"They that give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety" -- Benjamin Franklin 1759

"Giving up civil liberties to ensure freedom is like sacrificing teeth in order to preserve the ability to chew" --? (but a damn good statement)

I've been reading Michael Moore's book "Dude, Where's My Country?" and many of the points Uzibee brought up are mentioned in the book, which is a must-read imo.

I recently traveled from New Jersey to Chicago and had my carry-on bag almost confiscated because I had a miniature dagger (the size of a butter knife) and an Allen wrench. The knife I could understand, and I forgot I still had it in my bag, otherwise I'd have taken it out. But an Allen wrench? What do they think I'm going to do, unscrew the plane? Bush and Ashcroft are ridding the country of several liberties that we take for granted.

May I suggest knowledge as a solution. Your post is alarming and bad, no doubt, but nothing at all is keeping americans from educating themselves, getting library cards, reading books, following a plan to come into knowledge. Not the CIA, not the NSA, nothing but americans themselves are keeping americans from knowledge. Most americans need to realize that before they start complaining too much. in knowledge there is more power than in any government building, and the beauty of America is that the path to knowledge is always open.

Good post, though
