Wouldn't it be to the Bushites favor to not publicize that he is dead? Because if the war finishes quickly, it would force the public to take a good look at the way the Bushies are running the economy.
It's the economy, stupid!!

If we leave, we're in deep shit IMO. After what happened after Dessert Storm I when the UN allowed Iraqis to use helicoptors in Southern Iraq to bomb the hell out of the people in that area, we can't leave now. Bush Sr. wanted the people to rise up against the Regime and look what happened.
We're gonna be stuck there for a while. If in fact that he is dead, who's gonna watch his loyal followers?
Of course we shouldn't still be over there if he is truly dead. Yet, Operation Iraqi Freedom would have to continue even if Saddam is dead, "Iraqi Freedom" they can't stop till the Iraqi troops have stopped fighting and the people of Iraq are free. What really happens over there when the fighting stops? Who is going to run the country? Where do we fit in as a country?

15 days later...Still no weapons of mass destruction found (not even close), 8000 bombs were droped (imagine if each bomb killed one civilian each, but we all know that bombs usually kils more than one person each, so you do the math about the REAL civilian casualties), still no news on Al quaeda. In the meantime North Korea is resuming its nuclear program, and is a few months away to produce not one, but several bombs.
This is what REALLY scares me...After the first 911, the whole world was behind and with the USA...If it happens again (and let's pray that it won't) the international community might just turn its back, and let the US deal with its own problems and that is a very scary thought.

Yes, we should be there..!!
this war is not so much about Saddam's life in the first place, Lil Ray..If the US wants to achieve it's strategic goals, it must go on untill the end, whether Saddam is dead or not.

If Sadaam is dead, how does it affect things? It would be a major blow to the Iraqi army.. but probably it wouldn't crumble immediately..There are too many people that still have an interest in fighthing (Fedayeens, Special Guards, Baathist party members,...)..Maybe some kind of amnesty measure would help in buying their support..But I guess resistance would go on..The kind of guerilla warfare that you can already see emerging right now.
that being said, Saddams death would of course be a fantastic step towards achieving the three main US goals in this war:
1. Shifting the pyschology of the region through a decisive victory
2. Eliminating weapons of mass destruction
3. Using Iraq as a base for follow-on operations in that region.
