May will be headlining “House for a Cause,” an event sponsored by Detroit Metro Area Urban Groove. With an opening set with Norm Talley and Anthony “Shake” Shakir. The fundraiser will take place on Sat., Sept. 6 at the Johanson Charles Gallery, 1345 Division Street in Eastern Market, from 9 p.m until 4 a.m. Detroit Metro Area Urban Groove is working with the non-profit Serendipity, Collage, Potpourri to collect school supplies. Some donation items include: paper, #2 pencils, pens, markers, dictionaries, rulers, and markers.

With an urgent need at a participating elementary school that suffered a fire, the goal is to collect more than twice as many back packs as last year’s back pack drive. The fire damaged Bennett Elementary, at 2100 Mullane St. in Detroit, and destroyed many school supplies.

Furthermore, since school supplies are greatly needed for many schools this year they will be collecting supplies for Sherrill Elementary located at 7300 Garden St. in Detroit.

Tickets will be available at Spectacles, 230 East Grand River in Detroit. Spectacles is open until midnight on Fridays. Entrance is $15, or $10 with a back pack. Proceeds will be used to purchase school supplies.
