Tomorrow, Friday the 13th is going to be "Black Friday" at my job. They announced on Monday that there will be 450 positions cut this Friday, from custodians to Administration, no on is safe.

The department heads were told to trim their budget by 35% and submit their budgets this past Monday.

I'm debating if I should take the day off or come in to see the fireworks. They send Security up here to escort you out around here...

use one of the many Nu Bang Clan styles to ward off the axe and redirect it to the wielder.

This will be the last week I will get paid, as I will be here with my parents for a few weeks after making sure everything ends well.

Oh dont worry sensei its more important that we rebuild Iraq (after it was so important to go over there) than to rebuild the American economy.

You will just have to lose your job like everyone else and thank God that Bush is protecting you from evil terrorist.

Good luck, i know you learned a helluva lot during that 14 year run, hopefully you and your family will bounce back soon, and better than ever. I'm sure you know that there are some pretty savvy folks right here on the dhp, stay up

Well last year I started my own business doing custom home audio/video and building home theaters, sothats what I will be doing full time once we get all pending accounts taking care of. I've been doing a few audio video jobs on the side for a while and have a few big proposal's in the works so hopefully by the end of the summer I'll have a few big jobs under my belt.
My Brother in Law owns a Steelcase dealership in Detroit, he's doing pretty good cause of his contracts with GM and Ford. But alot of companies have been struggling the past couple of years, especially after the rise and fall of dot com companies folding. Thats what really got us messed up. A few of our client went bankrupt owing us alot of money. But thanks for the love yall.

Black Monday rolled over into Black Tuesday...

In the end, we lost four people from our unit. Some had 20+ years, some less than 10, some just hired recently.

I'm still standing though. I stayed above the radar this time, subtly reminding them fo how I developed the unit's entire web site, had it chosen as a model for the system, produced two publications this year so far, and found computers to donate to some schools and after school programs.

The budget still hasn't been approved (July 1) so anything is possible. We already lost our cost of living increases for the second year in a row, but I'm not complaining, considering the alternative.

I've lost jobs before, but stakes is high now. House, wife, condo, BILLS, BILLS, BILLS.

Good or Bad??? Good in that you still have Plan A (current job) while you decide to implement or create Plan B (whatever you would really like to do). I'd touch up the resume and start looking, just in case. People always want to hire someone with a job, but once you lose a gig, it's much harder to find one...boy oh boy did my husband and I find this out the hard way last year!

God speed to you and your current and now former colleagues! smile.gif

why not see if they will hire you as a consultant, its cheaper for them, since they won't have to pay you any benefits, and you can make more money and market yourself to other similar companies. plus, you buy your own benefits package and the cost becomes a tax deduction,

The axe is still swinging...

18 of 47 people from our unit are gone and our budget has been reduced by like $3.8M and these fools still aint't through. The ne wthing now is they are voting on the budget today (June 25) and let people know before the 4th if they still have a job or not.

I guess now is NOT a good time to ask for a raise?

Know the feeling Greg. My company's going through the same thing. We'll probably be laying off at the beginning of our fiscal year (July). Most of the people being hit are "non-customer facing" positions (IT, HR, Travel, Adminstrative positions, & hopefully some fat exec. mgmt types etc...).

I've been told I'm cool but you never know.

Hang in there guy!!
