I have one, but I prefer the Pioneer EFX 500. If someone would like a barely used Kaoss Pad, feel free to make me an offer......JMJ

Can you control the effects on the kaos? What I am trying to get at is,can I use the effects and not have them effect bass like on the Pioneer?

i don't think the kaos has midi. no midi on digital fx= tool for a dj not a producer. on analog boxes i cand deal with tapping in the temp but i expect more control w/ digital boxes.

Gotcha there JMJ.I'm kinda familiar with it.I was wondering if I could use the effects like delay, without overdriving bass. That's the thing I believe that puts the Pioneer above others.Assignable effects.I would like to be able to just freak the mids or highs while the bass stays the same. That shit'll kill a system and some bottoms.

steady... :D

nice thing to do with the kaos pad, although it only with one knob ( never failed me before :D ), is find the effect and sound combo you are looking for place the effect on hold and use the volume knob to bring the effect in and out and you can also change it on the fly or...listen to how it will sound via the phone jack on the box

It's definitely NOT as easy to control the effects like on the Pioneer, and you really can't isolate the mids and highs. The Kaoss Pad has more effects than the Pioneer, including sampling and a reverse feature, but I really don't need all that. I can play 'em backwards with my finger if I really need to (which I don't).....JMJ

There is a Kaoss Pad 2, but I don't know if they upgraded to midi in and out....JMJ

rob not to sure but it looks like a stomp box. i know line 6 usually makes stuff for guitars (not that you can't use it for anything else) and they have pretty good amp modeling.

The Kaos Pad is great, I'm using one, you need to really play around with it to get the settings you like and I would suggest that once you find a program that you like write it down on a card that you can keep with you..

For example:

I find the nicest phasing sound comes from, channel 17 and then setting it between 3.2 and 4.2.

A nice echo effect is channel 24 and 6.2

I have a list I can post if you like.

The Kaos can be tricky to work in the mix if you don't remember your settings, try hitting 15 and 2.5 in the mix and hear the Daleks crashing into a fast moving train :D

If anyone else has any favourite Kaos setting I'd be glad to hear about them smile.gif

I've had mine for about 2 years and now have the midi version Kaos II.

They're really fun to play with

Is it similar to the tweak...but not quite there? Kind of hinting at a full tweak, but more subtle?

I like that you could probably jump around on it...looks like fun...

a friend of mine uses a kaospad2, he's very happy with it.... the touchpad needs some getting used to, but it's a very flexible and good-sounding machine....

he switched over from an alesis ineko, also a very nice small portable device, lots' of usefull effects, 3 knobs to change parameters....

the line6 box mentioned is the DL4, a delay-modeller....it has some very nice tape-echo style delays, very usefull...

if you are looking for a real freak-box, unfortunately without any delay, but you could hook up a DL4 f.e., check out the Clavia Nord Micromodular.. it's a DSP-based modulair synth with stereo ins...you can program your own patches using filters, vocoders, overdrives, parametric EQ's, compressors, phasers/flangers etc.... and you can make the weirdest configs with it...you can save your patches into the 99 preset-slots and use the rotary-knobs on front of the little metal box to control parameters like filter-cutoff, resonance, overdrive etc......

this is a really cool device which can really make a difference, because you can make your own patches that no other DJ has available...

JMJ, I just play about with mine at home, urhum, the 808 that is. I like putting the mixer through it and ****ing about with sounds realtime, you can use the D beam theremin part also, although I did buy it mainly to sample.

The sampling function and d-beam are cool; not really feeling synth, though. Do any of you who has an 808 use the synth much?
